Many remember this, good times. My goodness, what an atmosphere. Those were the days. Does anyone see a path back to there? Sadly, I don't. After the Final Four in 2007, I really thought we were back on the national scene. Can’t believe how irrelevant we’ve become.

For me, I would have to say Bobby Winston.

For me, I would have to say Bobby Winston. Great call. In many ways a lineal descendant of Eric Smith as a Swiss Army knife type guy.

I was at that game as a student. This is why I still come to DC when we play Syracuse.

Does anyone have a video of Smitty's walk-off in The Dome? Yeah, that was beautiful. Take that, Sherman Douglas.

Most frustrating Hoya- Holis, I will float through the game Thompson. Did much better when he left.

Patrick Ewing arrived at the beginning of Coach Thompson's 10 year at the helm. Does anybody remember players from the Seventies- how about Merlin Wilson (still holds rebounding records), Jon Smith, Derrick Jackson, John Duren, and Craig Shelton.

Remember all those and more: Billy Lynn, Al Dutch, Billy Thomas, Ed Hopkins from B-more. All theSt. Anthony's kids, including Smith and Wilson.. Felix Yeoman has been cited, but Cheese Holloway, on down to Sam Jefferson, the last to have played at St. Anthony's. At the time of his recruitment, Al Dutch from Carroll HS in what was then the Metro Conference (now WCAC) was considered Coach Thompson's first major recruiting coup. The Dunbar DC duo of Duren and Shelton soon followed.

The first name that leaps to mind is Eric Smith. Hard to call him under appreciated but he was just so good at so many things. The moment which sums him up best, painful as it may be is that he chased Worthy down and fouled him after Fred’s pass. He never lost his head and while Sleepy’s desperation heave was short but for Smith we never even get that shot off. Smith is the first person I thought of as well. Probably my favorite Hoya who was not a "star" type player. And he played a mean shortstop on the 3rd New South intramural softball team with me and my buddies our freshman year! Eddie Spriggs was our first baseman. They played with us every spring for 3 years, until they graduated. Great guys. I loved having big Ed at 1B - he said "just throw it high", as he was not interested in getting down low to dig throws out of the dirt. One of my favorite Hoya memories. That's the kind of stuff that binds a fan to a basketball program for life! any smitty all state QB in high school too

David Wingate - people really don't understand how good he was as a player. The best defender. He could score, but didn't really have to with other talent on the team. Understandably overshadowed with Ewing, Reggie on the team. Had a long career in the NBA too. Ashanti Cook - previously mentioned. Could play the 1 or the 2. Versatile. Great actor too. Seeing him in Better Call Saul is great! Bobby Winston - previously mentioned. Solid as a rock. His stats might not reflect it, but he was the steady-hand off the bench for JT2. Exceptional role player. Markel Starks - previously mentioned. Goes to show you, that you have to have patience with players. The early part of his career didn't look promising. He improved each year to become a force on the basketball court. Ewing, Jr. - selfless, high-energy guy. Loved his enthusiasm. Didn't mind going from starter to 6 man to help the team. Ben Gillery - We needed those jump balls at the beginning of the games. Cheikh Ya-Ya Dia. Good role-playing big-man. Quick sub for defense every now and then. Great senior for our Hoyas. Brian Kelly - Solid help in the paint as a role player for Mutumbo-Mourning, and Mourning's senior year. Joey Brown - Loved his effort and tenacity. The late Al Mcquire raved about him when he called one of our Hoya games.

I give some credit to Bob Wade's coaching at B-more Dunbar. I love the way David used glass on elbow jumpers, a now forgotten technique, but very effective.

Lee Scruggs Kevin Braswell Joseph Touomou Joey Brown Jerome Williams Charles Smith Ashanti Cook Brandan Bowman Good list. brandon bowman was way underappreciated imho. Love the lee Scruggs call out. Not sure Touomou belongs at that list. He played hard just wasn’t that good. I’d like to nominate....Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje.
