I don’t know why I watched the replay of the 08 Davidson game. That game freaking took my soul. We had so much talent on that team coming off a final four appearance. We all remember we lost Green to NBA but we had Austin, Chris, PE JR along with Sapp, summers, and hibbert. We had so much talent. This game ruined my Easter, I just remember throwing chit at the TV. Watching this game also rekindled my dislike of macklin.
I think this ranks pretty high on games that’s ripped my heart out.

All you can ask for is a team with a shot to win it all. ‘96 Hoyas could have won it. Bad game against UMass. ☹️

The hoyas vs UNLV game ripped my heart out too. 1990?1991? We could have won that game against a generational team.

Could have beat Florida in 2006 to get to Elite Eight. Brewer hit miraculous shot sitting down on court.

The Ohio U game is the one that I can't get over....UMASS was good, Davidson had Steph plus I don't think that team was going much farther than the Sweet 16 and Otto's team was thin. But 2010 still hurts because that team had all the pieces....

In a strange way Stephanie Curry becoming a first team NBA player helped make sense of that game. But we were up by a significant amount & that team did have some pieces.

I think we had bowman/cook/Owens maybe? Along with sapp/green/hibbert/Wallace. No summers if I recall. That Florida team was very talented. I believe they beat a loaded nova team after us. Certainly a heartbreaker.

Certainly a heartbreaker. That Florida team was one of the best of the century. They won two straight titles, and this game against us was their toughest game in the two runs to the title. They had 3 guys who went on to have long NBA careers (Noah, Horford, Corey Brewer).

But 2010 still hurts because that team had all the pieces.... That game was rough. I recall we were being targeted as a possible first round upset by many of the analysts. For those who have not heard the story before . I think Julian Vaughn (I may be wrong on exactly which former player, I think it was Vaughn) shared this on the Casual Hoya site a few years ago. the day before the Ohio game, we were supposedly practicing against their offense (basically a 5 out/drive and kick spread offense). Our starting D could not stop our bench players as they ran that offense. JTIII got more and more frustrated with the tam's inability to defend these spread sets, until he finally just ended practice early in frustration. So it was not a surprise to the team when Ohio tore us up the next day. Their guards (Armond Bassett and DJ Cooper) played great. Probably the best game of Bassett's college career. They were both red hot from outside, and we gave up wide open 3s and layupus all game. We were good enough offensively to actually make a run from way behind late. I think Wright had a 3 attempt to tie the game late, but he missed, and Ohio then put us away. The Davidson loss was rough, but this was the game that caused the real concern that there was some fundamental flaw in JTIII's approach to NCAA tournament coaching, as a pattern was established. I watched some of the Davidson game on CBS Sports the other night. One thing I noted - JTIII was really ramped up right from the start of the game. the North Carolina crowd was completely behind Davidson, and there was a lot of energy in the arena right from the tip .The refs had an epically bad game (going both ways - we probably got the worse end of it, but they made plenty of bad calls that favored us -especially early in the game). Thompson was yelling at the refs and stomping around the sidelines looking tense and agitated right from the opening tip. Since his usual demeanor was calm (sometimes the point of passivity), it was really noticeable in watching the game the other night. to me - he looked super uptight. this was the first time he was a big favorite in an NCAA Tournament game in which the underdog was putting up a real fight, and my assessment is that it got to him right away. This problem carried over for the rest of his Hoya career, and we never again won a game as a favorite when the underdog gave us any kind of a challenge.

Georgetown showed some fight in the 2015 Eastern Washington game, which was closer than it should have been. www.hoyasaxa.com/sports/archives/archive0315.htm#27

That is why in a 2yr tourney run that game was the only game that they were really close to losing. I believe deep down UF wanted GTown to beat OSU. They know we should've beaten them....also Bowman is an underrated GTown talent.

All I remember about the Ohio game is I was at a bar (first mistake) and this was before all four games were on different channels, so we were beholden to whatever CBS moved to as main game in NY. They switched off the Gtown game because it was too lopsided at some point in the 2nd half and I proceeded to drink away any other memories of that one.

The Davidson game was a perfect storm against us. First off, Davidson was criminally underseeded as a 10, and our having to play them in Round 2 as a 2 seed was really bad luck. Second, the game was a de facto home game for Davidson in North Carolina, another really bad draw considering we were the higher seeded team. And we had to face Curry.
Using KenPom rankings, that Davidson team beat #25 Gonzaga, #7 Georgetown, and #5 Wisconsin. 10 seed my ...
