Athleticism, especially elite level, is definitely a plus...but in today's college game you've got to have multiple guys who can knock down shots...shot makers win games...now if you can get a combination that's "a sweet deal." Just look at Nova's two title winners and the current roster makeup...

Walton can really shoot it... Dude scored a combined 81 points in two games. Really impressed by his skillset, but unsure how well he fits with what we're trying to accomplish. If having players whose strength is knocking down open three point shots (see Seton Hall game) is something we are not trying to accomplish, maybe we should reset the agenda.

Track record not great winning battles. Anthony and RJ Davis come to mind. Connections and being early mean little when bigs swoop in last minute. ☹️

Connections and being early mean little when bigs swoop in last minute. ☹️ I have the believe the staff is aware of how these things have turned out recently with some of their high level targets and if they did not get a feeling from the recruit that they had a legit chance to land the player, that they would move on to the next recruit. If they are still pursuing Walton, and it seems like they are, then I assume they have gotten some positive feedback from him. Does that mean they are the favorite, or will actually land a commitment from him? Maybe, maybe not, but if you want to improve the talent base you need to pursue these players when they have a positive response to your recruiting pitch. If it doesn't work with Walton, it sounds like they have other irons in the fire and should be able to land a good player. They really need to find a high level shooter in this class.

Track record not great winning battles. Anthony and RJ Davis come to mind. Connections and being early mean little when bigs swoop in last minute. ☹️ It's an interesting recruitment for sure. Walton already took five official visits in the fall (Arizona, Texas, North Carolina, Vanderbilt, and California), but didn't want to commit during the early signing period. He has also been linked to Minnesota (home town school), Creighton, Nebraska, Iowa State, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Miami (OV during junior year?), and Purdue (OV during junior year?). Georgetown offered him after all of his official visits, and I believe it's the only recent offer he's received. He was receptive enough to the offer that he tweeted about it, and Ewing went out to visit him in Minnesota a week after the offer (1/24/20). Maybe he wasn't convinced about any particular school after his visits, or maybe some of those schools have moved on after getting other commitments at his position and/or running out of scholarships. In the past 2 months coaches from Arkansas, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina, Arizona, and Georgetown have met with him. Arizona (OV 9/26/19): Two top 100 6'6" commits in 2020 (Dalen Terry 7/23/19, Bennedict Mathurin 1/15/20), 2 available scholarships Texas (OV 10/19/19): Shaka?, 1 available scholarship UNC (OV 10/26/19): One top 100 6'7" commit in 2020 (Puff Johnson 11/5/19), -2 available scholarships California (OV 11/9/19): Two 6'6" commits in 2020 (Monty Bowser 10/9/19, Jalen Celestine 11/5/19), 1 available scholarship Vanderbilt (OV 11/16/19): One 6'6" commit in 2020 (Myles Stute 9/8/19), 1 available scholarship Minnesota (UV 1/26/19): 1 available scholarship Nebraska: One 6'5" JUCO commit in 2020 (Teddy Allen 12/12/19), -1 available scholarship Arkansas: One top 100 6'5" commit in 2020 (Moses Moody 11/9/19), 0 available scholarships Oklahoma: 1 available scholarship Creighton: 1 available scholarship Iowa State: Three 6'5" commits in 2020 (Dudley Blackwell 10/11/19, Darlinstone Dubar 11/5/19, Jaden Walker 9/16/19), 0 available scholarships Miami (OV?): Two top 100 6'6" commits in 2020 (Matt Cross 9/3/19, Earl Timberlake 11/4/19), 2 available scholarships Purdue (OV 1/19/19): One top 100 6'4" commit in 2020 (Ethan Morton 5/9/19), 0 available scholarships Obviously available scholarships will change between now and April, but figured I would give a snapshot of the schools involved.

I'd put my money on this being the reason he waited till the spring to decide, he spoke highly of UNC after the visit and seems to have a good relationship with the asst coach...

I hope UNC doesn’t steal another one from us. ☹️ At the end of the day, I think we need to be in some of these recruiting battles.

Sorry I edited the post after your reply, but that would explain why a UNC assistant was in to see him in January.

Good info, but if the player is showing some interest, then you have to continue pursuing.

I hope UNC doesn’t steal another one from us. ☹️ At the end of the day, I think we need to be in some of these recruiting battles. It could be a case where UNC is waiting for a decision from another recruit and is slow playing Walton at this point. He may become frustrated and decide to move on to another school instead of waiting. I understand the desire for the player to want to wait and feel really comfortable with whatever decision they make, but sometimes that delay may cause the school to move on to another option. It is certainly a strange recruitment and at this point I think it is still unlikely he ends up a Hoya, but who knows!!!!

UNC has to pare down the roster not ramp it up, they're 2 over the scholarship right now. As Polo pointed out, UNC visited the kid last month, hard to say they're slow-playing him imo...

He has that "No One Is In The Building But Me" jump shot. The kid barely hits net, let alone rim, with the D in his face. That release is repeatable and ultra quick.

No doubt the kid has a pure jump shot and looks to have great range on it. As mentioned, everyone needs shooters these days. The only thing I get little concerned about from some of the highlights is that he does not seem to be a really quick, explosive athlete. He gets to the rim in his high school games OK, but not sure if he has a another gear that would allow him to play a little faster and still be comfortable. I think he is a big time prospect, but in the back of my mind I am thinking he could be the next Reggie Cameron!!

He was right about 2 of 3.

I think he is a big time prospect, but in the back of my mind I am thinking he could be the next Reggie Cameron!! “quick, explosive athlete” is overrated. Give me a shooter with IQ and good attitude any day. Think about how much of our game we spend in transition vs half court. Think of all of the missed wide-open 3s. Plus, we shoot way less 3s than the top BE teams. Check this out: www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/conferences/statistics/team/_/id/4/stat/3-points/sort/threePointFieldGoalsAttempted#9 & #10 in BE in 3s made and attempted. #5 in 3FG% Shoot more!!!! With our scholarship situation, this kid is a steal. Next year, I expect Mac and Blair to continue to improve from 3, Pickett to continue being Pickett and the rest is a surprise from 3. I didn’t mention Omer because if he comes back (big IF), he is not shooting 3s this year so it’s a wash from the 5. Thus, there is plenty pt for shooters next year because we’ll need at least 3 shooters on the floor if we’re going to challenge the top of the BE.
