I was watching Amanpour & Co. on PBS this morning and they had a piece on a play "Remember This: The Lesson of Jan Karski. Apparently this play is a production of the Georgetown SFS as part of it centennial and had its premier in DC. It will travel to London and will play Jan. 27. It is also a part of the 75th Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. globallab.georgetown.edu/projects/my-report-to-the-world/ Did anybody see the play?

Professor Karski’s classes were as close as one can come to living through his times. He was, simply stated, captivating.

I never knew Pan Karski, but... I cried. David Strathairn is one of the two most talented actors I've ever seen in person, tied only with Lawrence Fishburne, who I saw perform the one-man play "Thurgood." Here it is: Frankly, I think that watching this should be a graduation requirement for every student at Georgetown. All degrees.

While I was taking a history class at Georgetown, I was inspired to study Jan Karski and his efforts to tell the British and Americans what was happening in Poland under the Nazis. I had not seen this, and look forward to watching the performance. I'm moved to see that Georgetown students continue to be inspired by his legacy - showing that his impact on the Georgetown campus was a permanent one.
On another note - Georgetown owns two Torah, both containing the same version of the Bible in Hebrew. One of the Torahs is different though - it was hidden from the Nazis during the Holocaust (in Czechoslovakia I believe), and recovered afterwards physically damaged. The Torah was donated to Georgetown to honor Jan Karski's legacy, and it is on display in the ICC building.

I made my inaugural visit to the Holocaust Museum on January 16th and saw Karski's name in a number of places. A courageous man and an inspiration.

Captured and thrown in jail by both the Soviets and the Nazis. Taking a class from him was one of the highlights of my education at Georgetown. We sat there listening to him and were just in awe of his accomplishments, character and integrity.

Such a modest and self-deprecating man too. I still laugh when he commented about the fact that he and his wife had no children. In his unmistakable accent: "My wife said: Karski, you could not reproduce frog."

I'm sure there are Hoyas out there who can watch this without tears coming to their eyes... but I am not one of them
Also, it should go without saying, but: David Strathairn is an American treasure. Whatever laurels and stars exist in our cupboard of plaudits for actors, he deserves all of them and more. We owe him a great debt that he has committed himself so deeply to this role.
