But if it was something like the basketball equivalent to the Shaw’s soccer gift, the university wouldn’t take it? I could see it. The investment by the university would be dealing with the neighbors. The money would come from donors. What the investment by the university would mean is more than dealing with the neighbors. You're taking about thousands of hours of legal work, meetings, hearings, etc. Not sure the university would do that for the basketball program. Wouldn't the university hire a firm to handle all the legal work?

Wouldn't the university hire a firm to handle all the legal work? Sure they would but the real time consuming work would be dealing with all the issues (zoning, parking, transportation, environmental impacts, athletics v. academic, etc.) that building an on campus arena would entail. It would force the University to really commit to the basketball program and get wrapped up in a conversation I don't think they'd want to spend time on. Face it, we Board participants care a hell of a lot more about the basketball program than the University does. And to be honest GU (and the current student body) probably care less about the program than do the administration and students at BE schools like Nova, Butler, Xavier, Creighton.

I thought parking on campus and the flow of traffic were issues. Also, would need increased security around campus.

Then again, Georgetown is about to open a ~4,500 seat football stadium this fall which will bring lots of people to the campus six times a year. Maybe not 4,500 every week, but the same issues apply and it has passed all sorts of zoning, parking, transportation, environmental impacts, athletics v. academic, etc. hurdles.

Another loss for Michigan. Please stop clogging up this thread about games of interest with posts about actual basketball games.

Good day for Hoyas in that regard...

But would rather read that than the 300th rehashing of the McDonough/football stadium/campus expansion/neighborhood input spectrum.
