I don't think either EtomicB or FrazierFanatic suggested benching Pickett. Only 5 guys can start. Clearly, Ewing is going to start Akinjo, McClung, and Yurtseven. He should/needs to start LeBlanc who is the most solid defensive player we have (aside maybe from Allen).
That leaves either Mosely or Pickett. Mosely has played very well, and could easily take that slot. And Pickett has played well too, but not all of them can start. That's not a benching, just the reality.
Either way, all 6 of these guys are going to play a lot, because they are a good bit better than everybody else, maybe with the exception of roles for Allen, Alexander, and Wahab.

....wow...so bench Pickett for playing 2 solid games..2nd in rebounds... Shooting Over 50% FG , and only have a total of 3 turnovers... I don't look at it as a benching, I want Pickett to play as many minutes as possible... But if LeBlanc is going to start, I'd rather see Pickett play with the 2nd unit as opposed to Mosely...

Based on play so far this year I think the starting 5 should be Akinjo, Mosely, Picket, LeBlanc and Yurt. This allows a starting lineup that is both able to score and may have more success on defense initially. Bringing Mac off the bench can allow sharing of the ball and could be an offensive boost when one of the starters goes out.

Not sure I would bring Mac off the bench after just two games. Mosely has played well though.

My guess is that Josh is inserted back in as a starter v. Penn State. Agree as Penn St. is inside oriented. I tried to tell myself they were inside oriented yesterday too , but then I remember that almost 50% of the shots they take to date have been 3 pointers. If our 3 FG% defense doesn’t improve, that could be why we lose.

I would have no problem with such a starting lineup, but I doubt Ewing would do that. He's clearly commmitted to Akinjo and McClung. For what its worth, regardless of whether McClung is a starter, I think he should get significant minutes. I am just not sure it has to be alongside Akinjo all the time.

I think the point isn’t that McClung or Pickett should be benched but rather that if Ewing wants to run an NBA-style second unit in, he has to balance the second unit with players who come off the bench that can score or the “second unit” is going to get run off the court most games when wholesale changes are made. The better alternative is to shorten the bench to an 8-9 man team with 3-4 starters on the floor at all times. The reality is that very few college teams outside 2015-6 Kentucky can play 4-5 bench players at the same time without a dramatic drop off. We certainly don’t have that kind of depth. Even if we have 10 guys that can play it doesn’t mean that players 6-10 should EVER be on court at same time.

Can somewhat overlook the first two underwhelming performances (though it is difficult). Tonight will tell a lot about the growth of the sophomores, the continued growth of Pickett and Mosley and the growth of Ewing as game coach. Much as I want him to succeed (as was the case with JT III) still don't know his ceiling as a coach. Expectations have been low for the past couple of years, but this year's team is more athletic and talented than the Hoyas have had in some time. Missing that consistent outside threat that they had with Derrickson, Govan and Greg Malinowski, but have much better guard play and a legitimate NBA prospect at the post. Hopefully the Hoyas show the progress on the court and on the bench that many of us expected coming into the year.

First real test of the season and first in a long set of tough games. Most amateur players play up or down to the competition and atmosphere and our Hoyas are no different. My hope though is that the crowd responds to the importance of this game, not the opponents name on the scoreboard.
Rebound hard, play smart defense, and GET BACK IN TRANSITION. Let's stay undefeated.

Surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet but Yurt and Stevens/Watkins faced off against one another in 2017 and it may have been Yurt's best game of his college career going for 19/11 on 7 shots and 3-3 from deep. If he does that again tonight we win.
As for this game Josh has to start and take Stevens. If have multiple bigs is ever going to pay dividends its going to be this game. I am generally not for playing Yurt and Wahab together but it may be warranted in this game. If there is foul trouble I could see Tim getting some run just because he is the biggest body left.
As for who goes to the bench it has to be Jamorko for this game. We can't put Jamorko out there when they are running 3 small guards around jacking up 3's. Especially when his theoretical advantage would be taking his guy down on the box which is not his game. Also with Josh and Yurt already out there the last thing we need is another paint presence. Jagan and Allen are a much better fit against that lineup. It will be interesting to see if they get off to a hot start from shooting how quickly Pat goes to the bench for Allen. If I was Coach Chambers I would start Curtis Jones for Wheeler knowing how bad our starting perimeter D is to get more shooters out there. Luckily for us I doubt Chambers reads this board and is a bad coach.

The announcers never get it right, but if you look at some of the videos interviewing him in high school in Louisiana, the interviewers say it that way.
