Mosely outscored James and Mac collectively. At least we won by more than 10. But we have to have a better D.

I guess a win is a win. But this is now cause for concern. A win is a win except when a win is a loss.

I’ve arranged business travel to DC next week so I get to attend the next Penn State in person. I will see everyone on the game thread in two games. Looking forward to watching in person!

Really would like to see us win by more than 10. Not just optically but computer ranking wise. Jinx? Somone correct me if I am wrong but I believe the computer looks at 10+ point win the same way as a 30+ win, correct?

Three Georgetown field goals in the final 9:17. A rockpile to the finish. Saving themselves for Penn State... playing to the competition...

I guess a win is a win. But this is now cause for concern. I have no reason to think we can beat Penn State based on these two games. You can certainly choose to see it that way, but I don’t agree.

I guess a win is a win. But this is now cause for concern. Not really. Let’s see how they continue to play moving forward with lineups getting more formalized and tighter. It’s another win early in the season to continue to tune up. Causes of concern come when you get beat handily by any good team you see, drop games you shouldn’t, etc. Ewing is clearly tinkering with the lineup and I doubt we go 11+ deep in the rotation as we move forward against better teams. Even the announcers noted that it felt like we were ahead by a lot more than we were. The game was never in doubt even though we weren’t blowing them out and we used it for the opportunity it was supposed to present (lineup tinkering, learning, etc.).

Out-scored by MSM in half 1.
Out-scored by UCA in half 2.
Certainly not enough data to draw any firm conclusions. But my yellow light is starting to blink.
Need to play much better to compete with Top 100 squads.

Quick thoughts:
Our D was awful. My sense was that we were too tight on the ball, allowing too many drives past us. When we just played solid D and didn't try to get our chin in their chest, we did OK.
Boy did Mac struggle on both ends. I'm used to him getting blown by, but he too often pre determined what he would do on offense.
In general, we just took what the first offensive action gave us, whether it was open or not. A ton of iso looks. Need to be more patient in the half court.
Yurt was the bright spot. Good constellation of moves. Hard working. Aggressive. Good on the boards.
Way too many sloppy TOs. When you play fast, those numbers will go up. We have to accept that to some degree. But we forced the ball too much for my taste.
The D has to be better. A lot better.

I'm really like the depth that Coach Ewing is using on the court. Got to have fresh bodies to wear down teams during the later part of the year.

Pros: Rebounding (Yurt, Wahab, Pickett), Mosley’s shooting, Yurt’s first half Cons: Defense. Mac. Defense. Turnovers. Sloppy finish.

I’m not throwing in the towel for the season, and I still have high hopes for this group. But from the admittedly small sample size, we have struggled mightily against two weak mid major teams. Our defense continues to be suspect, we go through long offensive droughts, and turnovers a problem. Hoping it’s just early season jitters, and integration of a bunch of new players. But we certainly have not seen the improvement (yet) that’s needed to take a big step forward.

Some cause for concern. Mac and Akinjo did not have good games today. Yurt was impressive. Great moves and touch for a big man. However, we need a couple of guys to keep the other teams honest. I particularly don’t like how we are defending the threes.

You can certainly choose to see it that way, but I don’t agree. Is Penn State good or something? They are a markedly better team than the two teams we just beat by an average of 12 pts. Top 50 team by any measure.

I suspect it will be about a pick'em by most systems and Vegas. Certainly not the Top 25 team we all hoped for yet, but hardly "there's no way we can beat Penn State."

I particularly don’t like how we are defending the threes. Regarding defending the perimeter, the guys have to talk to one another on the floor. They have to keep the communication constant.
