I’ve seen enough about the various pieces, and I am pleased to report that IMHO we are back!
No, the competition wasn’t the greatest but we got to see what we are working with. There were times during the game today when the Hoyas looked like they have not looked since the early 90s. (Even though there were successful teams after that, they didn’t play with the same style as we had back in the day)
The Hoyas are going to be a problem for the Big East and everyone on their schedule. Get your tickets now.

I’m coming down for the Syracuse game. I want to crush them at home.

We have legit firepower now but most importantly their attitude has taken the reflection of its Coach.

Good showing in Bahamas. I just hope the team doesn’t start reading their own clippings and think they’ve accomplished something already. I know PE will preach this, but this team needs to keep grinding, sharing the ball and working on their team defense.

I think we'll see a much better defensive team. Coach went out and recruited toughness, defense and length. Id rather us fly under the radar right now...

I think Gardner is going to pack a significant defensive punch for us this year. I'm excited to see what he can bring, presumably off the bench.

Not sure we are back other than the fact we are starting to play games. Knock off Texas and Duke, then I'll believe we are back. I expect major strides in decision making from James & Mac and that alone should make up the difference of a few games from last year. Throw in improvement from Jamarko, Josh and the leadership of Omer, Jagan & Terrell and I think this team has the possibility to be special.

But if we do....

Finish in the top 3 or 4 in the conference with 10 or more wins and then I'll say Gtown is back for the year... Call me jaded or cynical but I've witnessed enough hot starts to the season over the last decade to know that early season wins are not a barometer for a successful season...

A marginal improvement in defense should have dramatic effects on our results.

A marginal improvement in defense should have dramatic effects on our results. BINGO! On the defensive end is where we will see the biggest difference in the team.

Addition by subtraction. You know who's defensive liability had a huge (and I don't think really appreciated) negative impact on us the last few years. We will be able to be much more aggressive defensively this year and I think it will make our offensive, especially our fast break offense, really scary.

We will see, but I truly think the dumping on Govan was somewhat misguided and exaggerated last season. If we improve a lot on defense this year it's going to be because the guards/wings have improved a lot on defense, or Yurtseven is a defensive superstar (which is not what I understand him to be). Our rotations and help defense were awful the last few years, which falls on more than just one player. To act like the disappearance of one player is going to be the difference-maker I think is simplifying our defensive problems way too much. I don't have the stats, but does anybody know what our defensive PPP was with/without Govan?

Interesting point about defensive PPP with and without Govan except for the fact that Trey was the alternative. Replacing poor D with poor D won’t illustrate the potential gain.
