With a second place finish in the Big East we have earned a bye this Sunday and #3 plays #6 and #4 plays #5. I suspect Xavier gets the lower seed after the first round games, or maybe the winner of the #4 v 5 game while we get the #3 v. 6 game. Most likely a Butler then Xavier weekend instead of just getting one of the two as the first place team.
The question becomes how the NCAA looks at the Big East this year. Did we, as a league lose some mojo, with us not running the table, or might they take more than one team which they do not always do. Regardless, our seeding in the Tourney will not be to our liking I would imagine.
Then again, that is why they play the games, so Go Hoyas.

So Sunday's matches in WSOC could not have played out better for the Hoyas. DePaul, who beat us in OT is eliminated by Nova, and Butler was taken down in PKs by Providence. So it is off to Omaha (I wonder where you get to go for second prize) and the semis vs. the Providence Friars who we handled 4-0 on their turf earlier this year.
You still have to win the games, but we could not have asked for better match ups. Now if Nova can perform some more magic with Xavier, we would look even better.
I know a neutral field is liked after G'towns dominance on Shaw of late in the Big East semis and finals, but four schools going to Omaha where Creighton is not even involved seems like it may have back fired a bit on the selection committee.
Regardless, it is nose to the grindstone for two more big games and then hopes of a seeding in the NCAA tourney. Go Hoyas.

Yeah, I'd love to hear the logic behind the women - but not the men - going back to a pre-set venue for the semis and finals. It's not like Shaw field is in that rough of shape at in early November... and we did make draining improvements to it over the off-season... Anyway, I'm glad the results came out this way. Butler falling on PKs surprises me, but Xavier really did rough them up, I wonder if they were just physically not in a great place. Provy likes to play pretty physical too, they just don't have the horses that the upper half of the league does.

Award time is a fun time of year. Paula also gets some national recognition to cap off the regular season:

Beat Providence 2-0. Goals by Livingstone on a set piece and a blast by Carolan. Livingstone got banged up on the follow through with a right ankle injury, but was jogging on the sidelines later. I didn't notice on the stream whether she re-entered the game, but I assume not. Hoyas seemed to have by far the better of the play. On to the final against Xavier on Sunday.

Learned from Dave in the post-game that the team was dealing with a contagious bug, which'd explain the interesting player pairings, especially on defense. Not clear exactly what combination of Hoyas will step out onto the field for the title game.
Whoever it is, they should be able to hit the ground running. That's really the Georgetown motto of this age, in a way: come what may, we'll figure it out. This team has a lot of players who can just figure it out. The battle with Xavier should be one for the ages.

Came out with hair on fire on a cold, cold night in Omaha....Looked like Mount St. Mary's first half performance and Georgetown's second half performance last night....Total dominance from beginning to end; not giving the announcers much to excite about...Well played soccer on the ground with precision passing...Hopefully more a reflection of us being good versus Providence being not so good. On to the the finals and Xavier. Should warm up to about freezing temperatures for Sunday when the sun is out.

Let's go ahead and roll that beautiful bean footage:
This is what it's like to be a top-flight soccer player: living in a hotel room night after night, stealing moments here and there for personal time while balancing the myriad athletic and academic commitments that define your time on campus. But through it all, you have your teammates.
One of the reasons, often underappreciated, that success begets success is these experiences right here. We'll see if Xavier knows how to handle this moment. I have no doubt the Hoyas do.

I'm wondering if the Big East WSOC board is rethinking its change of venues for the Final Four of the Big East. I cannot imagine they sold many tickets with a wind chill down in the 20s at 7:30 PM when you couple that with the home team not even in the draw. I can imagine, hearing the announcers go on about Georgetown's dominance in WSOC in the Big East being a fact, that there were some jealousies that came in to play to slow down the Hoya charge. But I cannot imagine this is turning out to be a satisfactory result. November in Omaha???
Regardless, this team plays with a next "wo"man up attitude, and will show through sleet and snow if that's what it takes. One more time Hoyas.

I mean I agree, but the issue with the Big East is that Washington DC is the warmest weather city in the conference. It's not like we could have played it any where else where it would've been warm. Heck it was in the 30s here in DC last night.

Hometown fans whose team has not been there forever would turn out, as would Hoya fans. But if I am a Creighton fan with no team there YouTube would be looking real good, even tho' the game is right down the street. John Fanta and co-announcer are not exactly California boys, but were complaining about a miserable wind chill factor and wanting the team bench heaters up in the press box. Anyhow, just seems like a bad call. At least the men do not have to put up with it.

My bad, I got the acronyms mixed up. 🤪 To be fair... UCF joined the old Big East, but then it immediately became the American Athletic Conference haha.
