First complete game of the season. Hoyas finally get in a rhythm. Today looked reminiscent of last year, so the look forward is quite good with one more non league game and then Big East play.
J. Royson got banged hard a couple of times and hope she is OK. Really love it when she makes her runs from the back line. It took a while but the chemistry seems to be gelling. Hope this holds up with the BEAST coming soon.
Well done ladies.

Getting Jenna Menta back was big. Menta brings something different and intermediate, somewhere between Mandy's size and body control and Paula's gnat-like, menacing on-ball artistry. Menta is the curveball when the other options are fastball or off-speed. Wonderful to have her back.
Good to finally get a clean sheet for Anna Leat. She is a very different type of keeper from what I have personally seen before in a Hoyas jersey - unlike Arielle, or Emma Newins, or Jackie DesJardins, or even Jade Higgins (now I am dating myself - Jade was a contemporary of mine, and a really neat human to get to know, period). The idea that the Hoyas could have Ms. Leat for several more years feels almost blasphemous to say aloud - it's an exceptionally position-specific situation, but her level of raw talent is off all existing charts.

I see they had a tidy 7-0 win over Ohio on Friday. 5-0 by halftime, 5 different goal scorers.

After playing a close 4-3 OT win against Princeton a few weeks back this team has really found itself. Wins of 3-0, 7-0, 3-0 over West Virginia, Ohio and now Marquette to open league play. Three bagels in a row against two very good sides. Today was a picture of total dominance of Roeder's Golden Eagles. The score was not the measure of the win, but the play on the field. Marquette, as always, played very physical and G'town answered with pressure on the offensive end all day. Stringing a number of passes together and the exceptional footwork of Germino-Watnick, Royson and Moon was a joyful sight. Then, when the ball enters the cement mixer in front of the goal Carolan shines with her quick footwork. Many of the worries of the early pre season are being reversed as this team plays together better and better. Now for a two game road stint, but overall a good schedule with five on nine Big East home games.

I saw most of the first half and the Hoyas dominated and spent most of the time in their opponents side. Marquette had a hard time getting across the midline.

Hoyas win 2-0 at Villanova in what looked to be a slightly sloppy affair with drizzle on turf. Scoreless first half, followed by Jenna Menta opening her account for the year with a clinical finish off of a classy backheel by Carolan to redirect a cross back away from the touchline:
Second goal was a Paula PK after a tangle in the box - looked like a bit of a soft call, but I'll take it! Nova has been getting better each year, so this counts as a quality win, and a fourth consecutive clean sheet to boot. The momentum is building!

The big difference this year is that the crosses are winding up more just out the six yard box as opposed to down the end line to the goalie. Many more chances are being created. Look at the number of goals Amanda has in the "cement mixer" with her quick feet. Quality win on the road, while Butler loses to DePaul. Big game Sunday in Providence where we suffered our last Big East loss two years ago.

4-0 win @ Providence today! That’s five straight clean sheets for those of you keeping stats at home.

Three games in, Georgetown is the lone unbeaten team in the Big East. Wow.

Although the women deserved a tie (in our coach's mind) vs Xavier, the Hoyas came away with the win due to two PKs.

Tied it up in the 2nd half and both teams were scoreless in double OT.

Very good timing for a dose of reality. You just can’t show up. Getting behind by two is a wake up call. Coming back from same will be helpful in the tough post season ahead. A very nice run stopped by a team going for #1

Not sure what it was, but the players on Creighton seemed much faster to the ball for most of the middle of the game. The Hoyas recovered late, but not enough to pull off the win.

Dave tends to have his players play in more of a defensive posture (good defense beats good offense), so that most of the time our players are playing "behind" the opposing player. Take a look at almost every throw in during the Creighton game. The Blue Jay players fronted ours, and used arms out as the throw ins came to their bodies.
Same general strategy in the open field. Don't get beat deep is a good way to look at it.
Then he will change the pace entirely and have them attack, and when they do so the ball rarely goes back to our side of the field excepting the boom ball clear out by the opposition.

Needless to say tomorrows game in Indy is a big one. A win or tie would pretty much wrap the Big East regular season title as when you look down the standings the remaining teams should not afford the same opposition of those we have beaten already. Butler is the one exception. We have tie breakers with the top five assuming a win. A tie would leave things a bit in doubt for a game or two.....Go Hoyas.
