Birdman, you will have to take over getting the results from the "East Preliminary" Regionals, as I will be busy attending the Western Regionals. I will probably be talking to the usual suspects - GU grads who are coaching elsewhere (Stanford, NAU, UW)and scoping out the competition for the Hoyas who make it to the finals. Go Hoyas!

Whenever anyone starts a sentence with my name (my mother, my boss, a romantic interest, you in the above-post), I assume I screwed something up. So.. whew! Back to the point of the thread - and your post - I'll keep the East Regional results as up to date as I can. I am optimistic about our chances of getting a pretty decent contingent to the national meet in Austin.

The national rankings this week are as follows:
Men are 54th, up 5 places from last week. Women are 128th down 52 places from last week. However, they did not count the marks from the Princeton meet, where Josette ran a 4:13.77 1500m, which would count for about 22 points and put the women in 70th place.
I believe this week's rankings eliminated all marks from last year. Besides not using the Princeton marks, Spencer Brown's 1:49.12 mark was not scored. It could be that just the marks from the runners entered in their event at the NCAA Regional Prelims were counted.

It's good to see Joe is entered so hopefully the ailment that caused him to pull up at BE was out of precaution. Also, the 800 heat lineups look as favorable as could be hoped for our guys. Hoping Joe not only successfully moves on, but has some company.
Spencer looks to be well-positioned to move on, and our other 1500m guys aren't out of the running. Anything can happen at Regionals.
Good luck to all the Hoyas tomorrow and through the weekend. I'll do my best to track results!

Just came back from Western Regionals. Had a chat with NAU coach Mike Smith, and he wondered about Joe in Big East. I told him about Joe stepping off the track after one circuit. Now I come back and find Joe didn't even start. I guess they did not want to have him risk further injury with his hamstring.
Good for Spencer but really disappointed with the rest of the team. Our hope lie with Joesette and Christian. I think both could make Austin.

Looking back at the results I see that the men were 0.03, 0.09, and 0.11 seconds from moving on (Ian Delgado, Kenny Rowe, and Ruach Padhal). Tough luck!

Even though our guys sadly narrowly missed out on the quarterfinal, some notable results (non-qualifiers) came from it:

Unrelated to the Hoyas' performance, but out west BYU qualified 6 men for the national meet in the 10,000m. Nevada, were you around for that race? Good gravy! Mike did a heck of a coaching job in XC to grab that second national championship!

Unfortunately, we had to leave to catch our light rail back home (or so my wife told me), but that was a great piece of conversation that BYU grabbed half the spots available. Yes, how could NAU have beaten BYU for the XC title. Of course, some of those six might have been coming back from a mission.
The feature minute for me today was shaking hands with Carl Lewis as he ascended the stairs in our section of the stadium.
I didn't think Meg would have moved on, but I was almost certain that Christian would. His winning time at the BE would have been enough, and that was almost a solo run. Our hopes are with Josette. She has the 2nd fastest seed time in her heat.

BYU advanced another four (out of twelve) in the steeplechase. It seems as if they have the most followers at the meet.
Spencer is our last hope for the men. Here is his heat:
2 1 Dalton HENGST FR Ole Miss 3:43.92 3:43.92 2 2 Christopher TORPY JR Miami (Ohio) 3:44.52 3:44.26 2 3 Yared NUGUSE SO Notre Dame 3:38.32 3:38.32 2 4 Casey COMBER JR Villanova 3:42.54 3:42.54 2 5 Spencer BROWN JR Georgetown 3:39.94 3:39.94 2 6 Teddy BROWNING SO Indiana 3:43.05 3:43.05 2 7 Johnny LEVERENZ SR Butler 3:45.05 3:42.77 2 8 Joseph MURPHY SR Indiana 3:44.47 3:42.68 2 9 Nick DAHL SO Yale 3:44.58 3:44.58 2 10 Ryan MCGORTY SR William and Mary 3:44.94 3:44.67 2 11 Ben HILL JR Michigan 3:44.97 3:44.97 2 12 Allen SIEGLER JR Yale 3:45.28 3:45.28
He has the 2nd fastest seed time. He and Nuguse are the only ones under 3:40 in this heat. Again five advanced from the two heats plus two fastest times.
The two times are season's best and all time best.
