I can't really agree with your third point, though, regarding the recruitment of "alpha" players. Wallace was a JTIII recruit. He was certainly unheralded and the opposite of flashy, but I would call him absolutely an alpha floor-leader type. Chris Wright certainly was. Markel and DSR were too. Sapp and Trawick were both fiery. He didn't tend to recruit flashy or demonstrative players, and his bigs tended to be non-alpha types. Did his teams largely adopt his personality? Absolutely. And if that's your criticism, I guess that's fair. But jeesh, his recruiting evaluations over the first four-to-six recruiting classes resulted in consistent top ten teams. Things got worse after that, and do did the results, and there's a cycle of diminishing returns there. Even if I agree or don't with you on those players, you named 6 players in 13 years as a head coach. That's bad. Compare it to Pat's recruits in 3 years. I will agree with you in that his recruiting led to Top 10 teams early in his coaching career. But, just like JT2, as those first seasons passed and he got a top compensation package (Top 8 at the time), JT3 wasn't as active in recruiting (not going to summer events like Pat is doing, not meeting with visiting prospects and their families, etc...), especially for the level required to have Top 10 teams, and that led to those diminishing returns you mentioned. Keep in mind that Twitter reporting has seen an uptick, and Ewing is a more recognizable celebrity, so reports of Ewing at events are going to happen much more frequently than during the JT3 era. But even then, a quick Google search shows reports of JT3 at the 2016 Peach Jam watching Tremont Waters. His 2014 class was top 10 in the country, and his 2015 class was top 30 in the country (both with top 50 ranked talent). And regardless of the chicken/egg situation, he had a top 50 PG committed for his last class until a week before he was fired. I'm not saying that JT3's recruiting in the last few years wasn't a problem, since fit and other issues were definitely present in hindsight. I'm just saying people can go a bit overboard with the criticism sometimes.

Other than A.Walker, who recruited GU, do you remember how many recruits JT3 whiffed on that year? Yes, the 2014 class looked great on paper. Too bad JT3’s evaluation missed on the dawg factor, other than LJ’s, but he had more important things to deal with. He wasn’t a leader to that group. If we’re to use class ranks as a measurement of JT3’s quality as a recruiter, then we’re forced to conclude that he was a terrible evaluator as to player fit and developer of talent.

Oh I remember, I have the evidence right here of the players that picked other schools back in 2016 and 2017: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1CtUgTwapB5rCvc7Dm6GIMQ-GaSRoUUjB12mSM9evPC4/edit?usp=sharingAnd sorry I only did one Google search and found JT3 at Peach Jam. Here's another one where he watched Mass Rivals in April 2016,

Tremont Waters was a top-35 recruit. His change of heart was a crushing blow to JT3.
