New feature on ESPN today, which will “highlight programs that have faced the challenge of moving on from a single historically revered coach.” The series starts with UCLA, and have to figure it will include Indiana, Arizona, maybe Louisville, and I’d think quite possibly will feature Georgetown and/or St. John’s along the way. It will be interesting to see... es.pn/2W4pzSt

Do you really think ESPN will do anything to shine a light on Georgetown or St. John's, when the Big East is a Fox Sports property? I think not.

Kentucky and North Carolina? Unless Adolph Rupp is considered ancient history.

After UCLA (Wooden) and Indiana (Knight), I think we’d be 3rd on the list. Very few college programs (if any) that achieved a national championship were so created by and identified with a singular coach. UConn will be a subject. And soon, too, will be Duke and Syracuse.

Two former coaches are in the Hall of Fame, including Branch McCracken, who won two NCAA championships while in Bloomington, and Everett Dean. The two combined for seven Big Ten titles and a combined mark of 526-267.

I would add UNLV and Tark to that list as well as Marquette with McGuire

To be fair, Rollie may not even be among the top three Villanova coaches of all time.

Sick as it makes me to acknowledge, all of Jay Wright’s success moves Nova right out of that conversation.

How many basketball fans watching ESPN know the names Branch McCracken and Everett Dean? I haven't, and I'm a pretty big fan since the late 1970s. Would be very surprised if Indiana wasn't profiled given their struggles and coaching turnover experienced since Knight's departure.

Would be very surprised if Indiana wasn't profiled given their struggles and coaching turnover experienced since Knight's departure. Agreed that not every fan would have heard of coaches like McCracken or Johnny Orr or Fred Taylor that excelled prior to the arrival of cable TV. Then again, a lot of ESPN viewers probably don't even know that John Beilein coached in the Big East, much less names like Paul Evans or Gale Catlett. It's the march of time. There are two types of schools in this discussion--schools that were big once and never returned to the national spotlight (Connecticut, DePaul, UNLV), and another group that had a tradition but have underperformed for many years since a coach left (Indiana, NC State, St. John's, Temple, UCLA). Would Georgetown be considered among the former or the latter?

Would Georgetown be considered among the former or the latter? I suppose the latter. You know what would be good? If Coach Pat and the team began to excel and exceed expectation next year, bringing a halt to the planned production of the Georgetown episode.

Next up is UMass, so who knows where ESPN is going with this series?
