Joe Lonardo MC'ed as he has done for the last 40+ years or so. The only Thompson in attendance was Ronny. No Big John nor Lori Michael. The atmosphere was very positive with reference to Coach Ewing building the foundation last year, now essentially putting up the building as it were. A highlight video played. The seniors spoke absent Trey Mourning and a student manager who were taking exams. Jessie Govan alluded to getting on the same page with Ewing and seemed very positive about his experience.
As I mentioned in other post chatted with Gene Smith who looks great and fun to talk with. Living in California now but enjoys the buzz of being back in the DC area. He said he talks to Freddie Brown (who I think is living in Bowie, MD?) but I didn't broach the subject of Brown's falling out with Big John.
A group of us chatted with Chvotkin briefly about Bahamas v. Greece for the international trip. Some speculated Coach didn't desire long travel for tournament if Greece had been chosen which is understandable.
Surprisingly, no invocation to open program nor benediction to close even though I think I saw Fr. Steck in attendance.

Anybody not in attendance besides Mourning and the manager? I assume Grayson Carter wasn't there, anybody else?

keleb won the first PNC academic scholar athlete award from PNC well deserved hard working and nice and SMART KID think all big east academic four years.. One of the best things I've read about Hoya Hoops recently. CONGRATULATIONS to Kaleb! Kid was never a star, but he found his role and filled it enthusiastically and effectively - especially this recent season. He will be missed next year, but it sounds like he will be successful in whatever he chooses to do next. Also, nice comments about him and Trey always stopping to talk to fellow students. Thanks for sharing your observations Lic.

Anybody not in attendance besides Mourning and the manager? I assume Grayson Carter wasn't there, anybody else? I had posted in the Grayson Carter thread that he WAS there and accepted his letter award. No mention of his transfer whatsoever. Only Trey and the manager weren't there. All the current roster was present and received their various letters/awards including having for the first time 3 Big East All-Freshman (Akinjo, McClung, LeBlanc). Should mention that talked briefly with Greg Malinowski's parents. I believe I heard them say that he might look at trying to play in Europe and that he is eligible for the Polish national team. Couldn't tell if they were kidding about that last comment! For the old timers, Jim Brown and his wife were there. Brown is looking okay after his recent health problems. Needs a cane for walking. "If Jim Brown had stood 6-3 or 6-4, chances are he could have made it in the NBA. After all, Boston Celtics coach Red Auerbach once singled out Brown and Princeton's Bill Bradley as two of the best playmakers he had seen on the college level." www.hoyabasketball.com/features/top100/j_brown22.htm

The "kidding about the last comment" was only in reference to playing for the Polish national team but I think he and his family do have dual citizenship or are eligible for such!

Agree. The "kidding about the last comment" was only in reference to playing for the Polish national team but I think he and his family do have dual citizenship or are eligible for such! I knew Greg's grandparents and they were probably American born. Grandpa Malinowski, a married deacon at my then parish, had an accent that sounded more New York than Warsaw, so I think it very unlikely Greg's family had dual citizenship.
