Ed Cooley is staying in Providence.
A source close to the situation told The Journal on Tuesday morning that the Providence College men’s basketball coach, who had been in contact with Michigan regarding that school’s open coaching job, would stay with the Friars.
It’s unclear if Cooley was ever actually offered the Michigan job but he spent Monday night re-working his contract with Providence.
Later Tuesday, the school announced that it had reached a multiyear contract extension with Cooley, who had withdrawn his name from consideration for the Michigan job.www.providencejournal.com/sports/20190521/ed-cooley-will-stay-at-providence-with-contract-extension--------------------- Good for COOLEY, PC, and the BIG EAST. UM will keep looking. Beilein has some big shoes to fill: Longtime Wolverines coach John Beilein, the most successful coach in program history, jumped to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

HUUUUUUGGGGGGEEEEEE WIN FOR PROVIDENCE & THE BIG EAST BRAND..... Good for Him. Good for the BE and Good for Us. Cooley very overrated as a coach, but I like this look for the conference. Nice to see a Big East guy turn down a Big Ten opportunity.

Not sure where this should go in the Recruiting forum.

Next year's freshman class with Wahab, Gardner, Wilson, IGI has probably more talent than Villanova. Myron Gardner may be one of top 5 best small forwards in the nation. I think he's an absolute beast and is going to seriously beat down Hoya opponents. Mac, James and Josh are a year more experienced, Yurt comes from NCState with impressive stats. You've got Terrell Owen. This team can play with any other team in the nation.

I believe the NBA star going back to coach his alma mater model will become extremely popular. Over time, differentiating our product will become more challenging.

With fewer NBA stars actually going to college after the rule changes and the sheer amount of money made by the stars in the League, I expect that model to become less popular (if that's even possible).

I believe the NBA star going back to coach his alma mater model will become extremely popular. Over time, differentiating our product will become more challenging. What will differentiate Georgetown is the product and success on the court. There have been plenty of ex-NBA players who were simply bad NCAA coaches and/or did not put forth the effort required to succeed. The early positive indications after 2 years under Coach Pat's stewardship make me relatively confident in Georgetown's ability to compete and win at this level.

Villanova still has one scholly available after the addition of Caleb Daniels. Coach Wright hasn't typically used all 13 scholarships while at Villanova. Typically he only uses 11 leaving a couple open and has gone above that in the past for sit out transfers like Eric Pashal and Caleb Daniels.
