Sorry, for the uninformed like me, who is he? Looks like he committed to LSU but didn't play. Can someone fill us in?

Short version:
6'6 215lbs tough, slashing wing. Just turned 20.
Ranked 135 out of HS. Offers from LSU, Texas, Alabama, St. Johns amongst others.
Committed to LSU, dismissed for undisclosed rules violation. Concerning but...
...Kirby knows the family personally so not as risky.
17ppg 8rebs 53/35/70 in JuCo.
Welcome Galen!

Sorry, for the uninformed like me, who is he? Looks like he committed to LSU but didn't play. Can someone fill us in? Galen is a 6’6" Small Forward who is currently playing for Jones County Junior College (fun fact, Tyler Adams used to be an assistant coach there a few years ago, no overlap with Galen). Galen was a 4 star recruit ranked 79th by ESPN and and 123rd/135th by 247 in the class of 2017, and he picked LSU (recruited by then assistant coach Robert Kirby, now at Georgetown) over schools like Texas, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Vanderbilt, USC, Oklahoma, Marquette, and many others. He was AAU teammates with Josh LeBlanc according to Darrel Owens. After his commitment to LSU, the head coach was fired and Will Wade was hired, but Galen stayed committed to LSU. Galen played in 9 games for LSU his freshman year, before taking a leave of absence from the team for the rest of the season with the intent to transfer on January 29, 2018. There’s no details about why this happened, although there was an incident in June 2017 where he and a few other teammates allegedly shot paintballs at pedestrians on campus. Galen enrolled at Jones County where he has played about 25 minutes per game shooting 53% (36% from three) for 17.7 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per game. Georgetown coaches went to see him back in September, then again in February when they gave him a scholarship offer. He also had offers from West Virginia and Wichita State. He is immediately eligible to play next season.

So should Jamorko be worried? Should Mac be worried 😲 Just kidding I know better but if we put a lineup of James, Galen, Jamorko, Josh and Yurt7 out there I think a lot of the old school defense fans would be much happier.

I will assume this is the case based off your comment...but you have seen significant clips and evidence that Galen would be standout defender at the 2 position at a high major?

It would be great for different lineups for different needs within games. I like that the guy seems tough, like James, Mac, Josh and Jagan. Ewing is definitely a fan of that kind of player, it seems. Cautiously optimistic on the pickup, as he seems to fit in pretty well with a glaring need.

Sounds like he’ll be getting Kaleb’s minutes. Nice that he can step out and stroke threes.

Sounds like he’ll be getting Kaleb’s minutes. Nice that he can step out and stroke threes. and while 37% from 3 isn't so great for a spot-up shooter specialist, for an aggressive driver and dunker, that percentage is just fine to keep defenses loose.

He’s a huge get. Nice athleticism, tough, fits the mold we are recruiting. Watch out next year.

Hope he and Mac get Kenner League run this summer. They could have a nasty 2 way alley-oop package

Per DJ on Facebook
DJ has coached against Galen. Josh played AAU with him.
He is tough and is an excellent defender.
Said that he and Eric Paschal were the same player.

Love his abililty and use of the dribble to get to the hole. Has very good athleticism, very good finisher at the rim, and is a willing and able three point shooter. He’s just what the doctor ordered....see him playing a lot at the 3 and 4.

I think he starts over Pickett/Mosely. Mac will always start.
