Did Georgetown win the 2003 NIT when St. John's vacated it? The Hoyas lost 70-67, the second time the Hoyas were in the finals, losing 62-61 to Minnesota.

I can't say definitively, but I don't think we are the retroactive official NIT champions. Usually the way it works is the win/title is simply vacated/no one else is officially rewarded (in name or $$) as the winner. Of course, it doesn't prevent us from declaring ourselves the non-cheating champs (sorta like our being the drug-free '85 NCAA champions -- even if NCAA never vacated that one....).

To all the talk in the NIT thread about “I don’t care about the NIT,” you have never been to the NIT semi finals night at the Garden.

I'm ashamed of myself for posting this but considering everything in the news lately, can we dub the teams in this game "The Elite Two"?

Game is sold out Wednesday night-even student tickets. Taking names for the Wait List. Don't recall the WV NIT game in 2014 selling out. McDonough should be rocking.

Harvard may be "sold out" for McD's reduced capacity, that is. Bring that back up to 4,200 and it would really rock.

Oh dang so a non-student like me can't get tickets anywhere? Guess I'll just watch from the bar... Bummer. Hope we make it back to the garden for the Finals. Would be great for Govan to get back there.

Between your board name and that memory, you’re killing me, Iowa80, just killing me...🔪 Yeah, I suppose that I should have left that alone. Still, great teams have painful losses. Four of my top ten Hoya games have us with the smaller number. Great games are great games.

I hear you and understand (and I’m sure your avatar would agree on the NCState game especially, given his play down the stretch), and bet one of the others is the UNC NCAA final loss in’82 and maybe the other is Villanova ‘85 (painful as that was/is forever going to be). I’m not sure I could name your (or even my) six favorite moments that were wins nearly as readily — the pain is really seared and yet all glory is fleeting (cue end theme to “Patton”).

To all the talk in the NIT thread about “I don’t care about the NIT,” you have never been to the NIT semi finals night at the Garden. Two worthwhile games in the NIT at the Garden. The Hoyas just barely losing to Pistol Pete and LSU, holding Pete to 20 points (he did make a 3/4 court bounce pass for a great assist). The other game was Holy Cross vs Colorado State on St. Patrick's day. The Cross was not going to lose with a lineup of Jack the Shot Foley, Sheehan, and Blaney. The CSU center was something like 16-17, but the Irish lads prevailed.

The difficulty with holding Maravich to 20 was leaving Danny Hester alone under the basket. He had 30. How often was Pistol Pete outscored by a teammate?

I know I'm a broken record but why not play some zone in this game? Don't know if Harvard has great 3 point shooting but we really need to have this in our arsenal next year so why not work on it in the NIT? Of course this assumes that we play guys who will be here next year - again part of my broken record. BTW, do any of you younger posters know what I mean by a broken record?

Dr. Q - I nominate you to go into the locker room tomorrow night and give the pre-game speech. Explain to the seniors - especially Jessie and Kaleb - that they are going to spend the first post-season tournament game of their careers watching from the bench, because all that matters is next season😉
While I would like to see some Grayson, Patrick will play the players whom he feels give us the best chance to win. And he should. The best thing we can do at this point for next season is give the underclassmen as much post-season experience as possible - which means winning as many games as possible.

I am thinking that a good part of Jessie’s problems down the stretch are that the BE coaches have had 4 full years to figure out how to minimize him. And they sure did. Now we are out of conference, perhaps he will find things easier.
Doesn’t mean he won’t foul 20 feet from the basket and have 2 fouls in 8 minutes. Let’s hope he stays on the floor.

Something that I am thankful for.
Since we are playing in McDonough, I am happy that Old Dominion did not win the Ivy League title.
