Could not be more clear where Coach is placing his biggest bet. Hoping he wins this one, because if he does it's a jackpot!

Just trying to figure out what the attraction might be for Davis to attend Pitt. Yes they are in the ACC but they are doomed to be a permanent underclass behind Duke and UNC. Heck they even lose out on basketball prestige to UVA, Cuse and Notre Dame.
So then is it Jeff Capel? Yes he went to a final 8 ten years ago but isn't that pretty much cancelled out by following it up with back to back losing seasons along with vacating all the wins in one of them and getting fired? Or is him being an ex-assistant at Duke the draw? Certainly last season of 14-19 at Pitt can't be much of an inducement.
Yes, he'll probably start for them right away but there are many teams that can insure him of that.
Since some pundits have him picked for Pitt just wondering what folks here think the reasons might be. I read back about 10 pages in the thread before I decided to see if anyone wanted to share current opinions.

Heck they even lose out on basketball prestige to UVA, Cuse and Notre Dame. Time moves, albeit slowly, in the ACC. The post-K world for Duke will not be easy. Top teams by decade: 1950's: NC State, North Carolina, Wake Forest 1960's: North Carolina, Duke, South Carolina 1970's: North Carolina, NC State, Maryland 1980's: North Carolina, Duke, Maryland 1990's: Duke, North Carolina, Georgia Tech 2000's: Duke, North Carolina, Maryland 2010's: North Carolina, Duke, Virginia And just for fun, the Big East by decade: 1980's: Georgetown, Syracuse, St. John's 1990's: Connecticut, Georgetown, Syracuse 2000's: Connecticut, Syracuse, Pittsburgh 2010's: Villanova, Providence, Xavier (2013-pres.)

He's a Stepinac grad who is one of Capel's assistants. It's more about the fact they've convinced him that Xavier Johnson is going pro, or in the case he doesn't he will play over McGowens imo. Both seem unlikely to me, but who knows..

Both seem unlikely to me, but who knows.. Xavier could go pro after this season. Doesn't mean he's ready for the Association. It's very hard to get any attraction from the NBA coming from a losing program. Barring a monster numbers year, I think he comes back to Pitt for at least his junior year.

Xavier is probably in the same position as Akinjo but with a weaker cast around him. Pitt (likely) won't make the tourney this season, and they're not going to get much attention as a bottom of the barrel ACC team if things get bad. I think he might go pro regardless, given how small the window is these days for players to make it in the NBA. Not worth it to risk another full year on a weak Pitt squad that in 2020-2021 might still not be ready to compete.

This will be controversial but Xavier Johnson has more attractive NBA physical attributes then Akinjo. I'm not saying he's a better player then Akinjo, but he will be more attractive to the NBA then Akinjo will be from the eye test...

Three inches taller with 20 pounds on Akinjo and a longer wingspan... I buy that.

Also a born turnover and will never be as good a player imo.

He's already commented that he won't be there for 4 years, but in ACC play he averaged 4.5 to's a game and shot 30% from 3. His 0rtg was 93. All of that would have to vastly improve in order for any NBA scout to take him seriously. He had more turnovers than assists in conference.
He's a relentless kid. He works extremely hard and definitely believes in himself. I wouldn't count him out by any stretch of the imagination, but a lot of the hype around him is centered on how he started the year not how he finished.
I honestly don't think a lot of these kids understand how elite you have to be to make it to the NBA.. I feel like leaving after his Junior year seems realistic unless he makes a massive leap.

I’m just glad Timmy was able to put his life back together after all that time he spent in the well.
