Marquette getting clobbered by Murray State right now... not looking like a great postseason for the Big East so far.
I still can’t comprehend how there’s like five college teams who appear to even understand the concept of a 2 for 1. Maryland called timeout up 1 with 58 seconds, then proceeded to dribble around half court for 15 seconds, get a bad shot as they approached a shot clock violation, and give Belmont last shot with the shot clock off and a chance to win. Just no further thinking than “slow = good and smart.”

Can't say that Wojo getting pantsed is not enjoyable. Silly me, I forgot to pick Murray State in my pool.

The Brown kid has been lights out and now Quette is panicking. This is when Howard hurts you because he's off and the rest of the team is looking for him to make a shot....not a play..

Different type of player, but Morant has that Curry at Davidson feel. Wouldn't want to get near playing them, especially since they can be treated like a Cinderella. And how in hell did this guy wind up at Murray State?!

And how in hell did this guy wind up at Murray State?! This is the best tournament performance I’ve ever seen. He’s a man among boys out there and that’s with Howard on the court. Honestly, how did so many coaches whiff on an all-state player? Did he develop that much after high school?

For all the points he scores, I don't think Markus Howard is anything all that special as a player. He gets red hot a few times a year and goes off, but usually it takes him a whole lot of shots to get his points. when he is struggling, it seems that he sometimes takes the whole team down with him. We played lousy vs. Marquette at home this year - but they ran their offense really well without him and beat us behind one of the Hauser's having a big game. Marquette looked better in this game then they looked in the many games they lost down the stretch, with Howard on the floor using up a ton of possessions to get his points. He is such a defensive liability because of his lack of size/strength, and he too often takes Marquette out of their offense by hunting shots. When the tough shots are going down, everything is great. When they are not, Marquette can look pretty bad.
Naturally Howard will probably come back next year and put up 40 on us a few times! But I was not at all surprised to see Marquette struggle down the stretch give their dependence on Howard putting up huge numbers to play consistently competitive basketball.

Watching Louisville play Minnesota I could have sworn Louisville was us. No defense, constantly trying to feed the post while Minnesota was out hustling them, grabbing rebounds and hitting 3's.

If I was GU, I wouldn't knock Marquette's last few years.

And this is why picking these games is so befuddling. Minnesota was not a three point shooting team. They averaged 5 a game. Today they made 11. I picked Murray, but I didn't see that beatdown coming. I thought the game would be close. I hope Seton Hall does better tonight. Tell me, did Auburn really commit a foul on a three point shot with a two point lead and one second to play, and then see the NM State player miss two out of three - but then come away with the rebound on the second miss and have yet another shot at the win? Damn, Belmont. I wish they hadn't turned the ball over in the final 10 seconds.

Man I love/hate Nova. Watching how they help out on defense, move the ball, and maintain their poise. A real testament to Jay Wright.

Really weird. Game in Connecticut yet crowd seems heavily for St. Mary's. Where are the Nova fans?

Did he develop that much after high school? a little, he was only 6-0 going into his senior year and didnt have a solid J, then he grew 3 inches and his vert changed. Supposedly he couldnt dunk until he was a senior.

Nova fans getting into it-finally. I never noticed it before but it is amazing how on defense all Nova players have one eye on their man and the other on the ball. Always ready to help out.

Man I love/hate Nova. Watching how they help out on defense, move the ball, and maintain their poise. A real testament to Jay Wright. They really do know exactly what they are supposed to do at all times, on both ends of the court. It is very aesthetically pleasing basketball to watch if you enjoy half court execution The thing I really noticed on D tonight - when a pass goes into the post/wing, the Nova guy defending the offensive player in the opposite corner busts his butt to get into the lane to play help D the instant the passer lets go of the ball. then if the ball leaves the corner/post, this defender is sprinting back out to his man in the corner. The instant read of the play, the hustle to get into position, the decisive response to every move the offense makes - it is very impressive to watch. We actually played some stretches of good D vs. Harvard. After the early stretch of terrible rebounding and allowing a string of barely contested layups - we started hedging/recovering pretty effectively on the perimeter for a long stretch of the game. Guys were locked in and moving decisively. Thehas two breakdowns that killed us - one of their bench guys (tall, skinny kid - don't remember his name) was left wide open on the perimeter and drilled two 3s. But on the whole - we were lucky to allow only 71 points. They shot something like 4-23 from 3, and many of those were good, open misses. They usually shoot 36+%. And they were something like 21-29 on two's due to absolutely zero rim protection. The 4 new centers darn well better be able to contest shots at the rim next year - 4 years of watching Govan, Mourning, Hayes, and anyone else we ran out there at the 5 offer zero resistance has been the roughest part of our NCAA drought years.
