Father Currie passed away on Monday, Christmas Eve. Apparently he had been hospitalized for several weeks with heart failure. Father Currie was on the search committee along with Charlie Deacon that hired John Thompson Jr. jesuits.georgetown.edu/members/currie

Fr. Currie began his academic career as part of the chemistry faculty at Georgetown, specializing in photochemistry.
Too bad I was ahead of his time on the faculty. I probably would have worked under him for my senior research. May he rest in peace.

Per a note from a member of the Jesuit Community on Facebook, Rev. Currie was still alive as of Dec. 28.

Will be glad to be wrong. I wonder if the source confused Charles Currie with his brother who was a Jesuit at Fordham and passed away in 2017, Joseph Currie, SJ.
EDIT: Father Currie at Georgetown Med in ICU.

RIP, Fr. Currie, accomplished academic, University President (Wheeling and Xavier) and the architect of the Georgetown Bicentennial Celebration -- "Learning, Faith and Freedom." And, a nice man as well.
