Seems time for an individual thread. Apologies if there already is one.

Mark Williams is the most acclaimed of the bunch as the top-60 center is taking the cross-country flight to see all that Jerod Haase’s program can offer. The younger brother of former Duke standout, Elizabeth Williams, the junior has had his fair share of overtures from the nation’s best along the east coast, but might Stanford’s unique sell put them over the top? basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/programs-with-the-most-on-the-line-this-weekend

Williams is beginning to get ‘it’ as a basketball player. A smooth and fluid 7-footer with tremendous abilities around the basket, he played the part of a top-five center in the 2020 class throughout the course of the week. Duke is the heavy favorite and the fact that his sister played for the women’s team in Durham certainly helps the Blue Devils. Ohio State, Stanford and UCLA are just three others involved for the emerging big man. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/nbpa-top-100-key-takeaways-from-charlottesville

Why him?: A seven-footer from Virginia, Williams has been highly ranked for some time. But he's also seemed to be almost too "nice" of a kid for his own good when he'll earn his keep scrapping in the paint. The potential and physical tools he has are all the sudden being matched by his production as a scorer and rebounder. Considering he plays on a team with some shot happy guards, it's really impressive how he's finding more ways to produce. Williams really looks to be waking up to how good of a player he can be. Recruitment: Duke, LSU, NC State, Ohio State, Pitt, Stanford, UCLA, Virginia, Virginia Tech and several others have offered. If there is a leader, I'd bet on Duke here. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/peach-jam-the-bossi-awards

Georgetown- Obviously Coach Ewing had a legendary NBA Career as a big guy so that’s really his main pitch. To come in from Day 1 and make an impact and be the next great Hoya big, with a coach that’s been there and done it at the highest level.

I have no idea how good Moses Brown was coming out of high school, but I believe he was ranked pretty high (possibly the #1 center). He chose UCLA, coach was released, he left school after 1 year, wasn't drafted, picked up by Houston for their summer league team, played two minutes in 1 game and saw no more action. The school you go to makes a difference, especially with being a big man.
This is a really important year for Coach. These are his first Big Man recruits, if they have a great year and their stock rises, hopefully the flood gates will open and we get talent like Mark Williams on a consistent basis. I realize some Bigs are uber talented and it doesn't matter where they go, the league is waiting for them. Others aren't and I wouldn't want to take that chance.
We look forward to your visit to campus Mark Williams. Hopefully you will be impressed and will want to spend your undergrad years here. Coach Boo Williams likes our program, some of his players have come over the years including Iverson and the Alonzo, his sister coached here. You will help us continue our upward trajectory. Wishing you the best.

This will be an uphill battle given the competition, and we really don't need a center in 2020. But this kid is going to be really good. I'm glad we have a lottery ticket for him.
I think this will be a 3 man class, possibly 4. We're fortunate in that we don't have that many glaring needs. We'll need a point guard to replace Allen and who will eventually take over for James. Other than that, we don't have too many glaring needs. I'd like to see us land a point guard to go along with Williams as a combo forward, and then just be in the mix for a handful of others and see what happens. Williams is one of those, along with guys like Moncrieffe and Richmond. Hopefully something breaks your way and you can land a high level player. If not, you can look for a late bloomer with potential or grad transfer in the spring. Or even a conventional transfer to bring along like we did with Yurtseven.

Wishing you the best. It’s funny how so many recruits don’t look at college as a business decision. They will say the right things in regard to Patrick but then in the end will go to the school that will pay them and their handlers the most. Hey congrats, you made $50,000. But lost out on a lot more. Not saying that’s the case here as I don’t know anything about this young man. But it happens too often.

You are probably right, this happens more often than I care to admit. It is just easier me to think the Hoyas just aren't the best fit for player X and they chose to go elsewhere. I really pull for the kid who who doesn't go the easy route but chooses the program where the Coach, teammates , playing style and occasionally the academics are in line with the young person. I have been following Williams for quite some time. He is a local standout. When his sister, Elizabeth Williams, was in the 10th grade, every program in the country was after her. She wanted to follow her father into the medical field, pediatric surgeon, and chose Duke. She went on to an incredible collegiate career.
