I can't remember the last time two teams who were originally in the same conference played in the same tournament. Conference realignment messed up some tournaments like us vs Butler in 2014. It might just be that Creighton took the spot over us, but I wouldn't buy too far in it. There could be another tournament coming up.

As someone else said, it only happened with Georgetown and Butler because they were chosen before conference changes.

There's already the possibility of playing Duke in the Empire Classic at MSG the week before Thanksgiving this year. Looking forward to improved competition.

is it possible that this is really the 2019-2020 battle for Atlantis and we are in the one the following year?

Based on last year's RPI rankings, it looks like we're in line in our OOC for 1-2 Tier 1 matchups (pending Empire Classic seedings) and at least 4 Tier 2 matchups (pending who we get in the Gavitt tipoff). Would be nice to get Liberty or equivalents back on the schedule for at least 1-2 of the remaining home games, and we'll see who comes in for the Empire Classic campus games.
That's a big step up from last year's OOC, when we had: - one Quadrant 1 game (loss @ Cuse), - 1 Quadrant 2 game (win v Liberty), - 4 Quadrant 3 games, (2-2) - 7 Quadrant 4 games. (7-0)
And way better than the even-more-dreadful-in-retrospect 2017-18 OOC schedule: - 0 Quadrant 1 games - 1 Quadrant 2 game (loss to Cuse) - 1 Quadrant 3 game (win @richmond) - 9 Quadrant 4 games

There are seven games we can count on (including 3 home, 2 neutral, 1 away, 1 unsure): Empire Classic - 4 games 2 home games against TBD opponents (hopefully 100-200 level, but possibly 200+) Nov 21 - Texas Nov 22 - Duke or Cal 1 home game in the Gavitt games, against a Big 10 opponent (unclear whether it will be Illinois, or if they'll mix up opponents from last year). 1 home/away game against a Big 12 opponent 1 game @smu Other rumored games... - reupping with Syracuse (though Boeheim said he wasn't sure about renewing) - possible series with Memphis (they're interested, no indication either way from Ewing) Definitely an upgrade over this season's OOC, but how much of an upgrade remains TBD. Hopefully, they can fill the rest of the home games with a mix of mid-majors and decent low-majors. Assuming things haven't changed since last year's press release, Georgetown will be playing at SMU on December 7th. www.guhoyas.com/news/2018/7/2/mens-basketball-georgetown-and-southern-methodist-university-to-play-in-home-and-home-series.aspx?path=mbball

Nice — that would be an upgrade from SMU.

That's a great out of conference opponent with a natural rivalry.

I'd like to see Notre Dame play us and UCLA. The Notre Dame - UCLA basketball rivalry has a great history.

Though it looks like the Hoyas and the Tigers will be in the Bahamas for the same week this summer.
Also sounds like Ewing was open to playing Memphis in 20-21.

If you read the article Pat and Penny spoke at the Final Four. That was before Penny had this monster recruiting class. We have a schedule that is heavy with good teams in the OOC and Pat didn't want to add another this season...also I don't think this is a one class lucky spell for Penny. I think Penny will get good players as long as he is in Memphis....

Kentucky is the model for a non-academic state school willing to field a winning basketball program at all costs, i.e., bending rules. Memphis, Arizona, LSU and others are just going down the same path. Big upside in $$$ and little downside in terms of NCAA sanctions. Cheat to thrive.
