I think we are out of the Wahab running, maybe still a slight chance at Baker... I agree. I don't see them recruiting another player who is strictly a 5 at this point along with Wilson and Big Tim. Baker and Akok can both play the 4 position so I could see them still being in the mix, but I think the Hoyas are done recruiting centers for this year, and probably next year. Everything depends on how ready Tim is to play. Malcolm is nowhere near ready and we will need another big next year as Yurt is not going to be able to play the 5 for 35 minutes a game. Right now we have nobody else on the roster that I would feel comfortable with playing the 5 next year. Quite frankly we don't have anyone I'd feel comfortable playing the 4 next year. This class needs at least one more big and unless we fill that other spot with a shooter I'd take 2 more good bigs. No more projects though.

Pickett could cover a stretch 4 but if that is what we are resorting to next year I'm not confident the team is where I am hoping it will be.

We’re talking college 4, so bar isn’t high. Carter may end up a marksman like Derrickson.

Generally speaking, I would count on players who were recruited to play the position already in the program over a Freshman... Imo all those kids can play the 4, and Leblanc's best position is probably as a 4 right now.

I don't think they start at the 4 for above average college teams which is where I want the Hoyas to get back to. Could they get there sure. that being said if you give me the choice I would say Baker is going to be a better 4 option than Walker next year. My original response was to the fact that we are set at the 4/5 with this recruiting class and should fill other positions. My vision for what I want this team to become is obviously Nova. I'm sure most here feel the same. At this point we have a few guys that I would consider Nova level players that would fit that system. When we bring in guys that are nowhere near that level it's a little discouraging. That is how I feel about the current crop of 4/5's that will be on this team after this year except for Yurt. This years class is far from over and I know a lot can change. If we don't bring in a much higher level 4/5 by whatever means necessary for next year (recruit or grad transfer) I think the team will be stuck right where we are now. A low level tournament team (hopefully) that needs an injection of big man talent that bring spacing AND defense.

No doubt your basketball knowledge and acumen would be in higher demand if you found a way to be marginally constructive in your criticism, but instead you choose to just straight insult Hoya players (and I am not even getting into your praise and covetous views of 'nova, cause i just ate and don't wanna vomit). We have elite centers for this year and next, rising sophomores and incoming freshmen who coach sees as viable 4s and now we have added to big bodies who will secure the paint for the foreseeable future. Shot blockers? Check. Stretch 4 potential? Check. Guys who can get up and down the court? Check. Strong frames to build big bodies on? Check. But you in your infinite wisdom have deemed them all to be inferior to what? Eric Paschall, whose best offer out of HS was Fordham? Not to mention which you are worried our big man depth compared to a team that literally does not list a single center on its roster for this year! get it together and either support this team or don't, but please stop coming around here and bashing the great young players our coaching staff is bringing into the program.

Thank you seaweed. It's one thing to question a recruitment but it's a complete other level to bash a commitment. Wilson is a Hoya now. If you don't like it then bite your tongue. I wanted him from the beginning but if you disagree fine....I personally haven't seen anything out of Roundtree that makes me envious...we all want the best but 5* kids aren't coming yet. We need to hope that now since we have true playmakers in the backcourt the bigs in 20 and 21 will be interested....

I think a lot of this is really perspective, more than anything. If you look at our team on paper, the only proven high-level Big East player we have is Govan. After that, it's really a lot of (a) role players (Mosely, Kaleb, etc.), and (b) potential (the freshman and sophomores). So, if you're looking at proven players, we don't have much. As a result, a lot of it depends on potential. Personally, I am optimistic on Akinjo and McClung, in the sense that I think at least one of them will probably make a strong impact, and hopefully both. I'm also optimistic that Walker can contribute, and happy that LeBlanc may be able to bring some defensive tenacity. So I have optimism, but the blunt fact is that if the potential isn't realized, we are going to be a pretty bad team.

I tend to put my faith in their continued development over hoping that both of our freshman guards don't play like freshman guards tend to do.

I am always fascinated that posters on the board (not looking at anyone in particular here) believe that they are better evaluators of talent and of potential than - PATRICK EWING. I mean 15 years as a coach and the NBA, and praise from highly respected coaches and front office people, clearly means nothing. And yes, I know the pro game has significant differences and requirements. But evaluation of talent and potential, and the ability to develop both, are universal, be it high major college ball or The League.
TTS. And TPE.

Recruiting remains an inexact science and while I would readily agree that a 5* player is more likely to succeed than a 3* player, I think that there is value to having a pipeline with players who are at least likely to stay 3 years. No 5* player will be in college for that period of time unless the kid turns out to be a bust. The key for the Hoyas is to reach a point where the core of the team each year are experienced juniors and seniors while still providing plenty of playing time for talented freshmen and Sophomores. This avoids the feeling of continuous rebuilding. I see no problems with a couple of developmental players for the next couple of years—the issue I have is whether with only 4 scholarships and having a transfer center already waiting in the wings, is it a risk to add two developmental players at the center position. I have no idea because it may turn out that one of them is ready to contribute significant minutes next year. I hope that the remaining two scholarships go to wings or SGs because I am concerned about where the points will come from next year and I do not believe that you can play Ewing’s style without some quality shooters.

Bottom line to me is folks sharing their opinions on recruits/recruiting doesn't make me think that they believe they know more than the staff...

Of course I have no problem with sharing opinions, which will frequently differ. But that is significantly different from posters not only being (overly)critical and even dismissive of recruits, but acting like they know more than the staff. That is what is a joke to me.
