If true, this is horribly effed up. What's wrong with this man? What could the justification be? I do not understand.

The reason for the lapse is Congress skipped town without authorizating the relief. So the headline is misleading at best. More “Orange Man bad” journalism from the Post.

Food stamp cuts have hit Puerto Rico and Trump has repeatedly told aides he doesn't want federal money going to Puerto Rico. 1) Dems approved a package in January 2) Trump administration released a letter addressing what the Dems passed calling the additional food stamp aid “excessive and unnecessary. Said he wouldn't sign. 3) McConnell (*Not Congress) hasn't brought up a package and skipped town before doing so. What he's bringing up is what the Dems already approved in January packaged with relief for other disaster hit areas. 4) People are suffering as a result.

Thank you for some factual insight. Sad. And off-putting, to say the least. I have some other choice words, but I will respectfully refrain from sharing them this time.
Lord have mercy!

Making America great by defunding the Special Olympics. Just in case all the racism hasn’t made it clear how horrible these people are...

Not only the Special Olympics but after-school programs and support for students from low-income families also on the chopping block.
Devos: "We had to make some difficult decisions." “We’re not doing our children any favors when we borrow from their future in order to invest in systems and policies that are not yielding better results”
It says a lot about our country that our leaders think children and adults with disabilities should do without so their billionaire donors can have more.

As long as there is no push back from Sean Hannity and Lou Dobbs, this will not be an issue. Keeping Fox Nation on its side is a major priority of the Administration.

I’m convinced that the special Olympic cut was done to give cover for the other, bigger, and more meaninigful cuts they really want to make. There is no way this will get through nor does it even matter because it’s so small. But, its a ridiculous move that is sure to get a ton of disproportionate coverage and, when they eventually keep it, they can get more coverage all while massive amounts do get cut.

I had to pay more federal taxes this year than I would under the old system. You might think the standard deduction of $24000 is twice the former standard deduction of $12000 (couples filling together), but the 2x$4000 exemption was eliminated. Am I thinking about this correctly? Did anybody else notice this. Under the standard deduction of $12000, I could have claimed state taxes, property taxes, etc., but these would not add up for the $24000 standard deduction.

I do not believe that if you take the standard deduction you can also deduct state income tax, or state property tax.

I am saying that if you can itemize, and it was more profitable itemizing under the old systme ($12000). If all your itemized elements come up to more than $16000, then you pay less tax under the old system than the new one. $8K + $16K+ > $24K.

Nevada, you aren't helped by that big tax cut to your private jet? Considering Nevada's history, he wouldn't be so irresponsible as to have a private jet. Though, I don't know how the tax cut would affect a NetJets membership.

Smolliet is a crap bird, but I long for the day when the President doesn't think the DOJ and FBI are his personal hit squads..
Btw... Doesn't he know that once a prosecutor decides not to charge someone with a crime they are totally vindicated. All of the foul things they did up until that point in plain sight doesn't matter anymore.
Or maybe his conduct, criminal or not, is not ok...

There's a 0% chance that Trump could pass a 100-level Macro or Micro exam.
