Kind of reminds me of Pat Ewing Jr. and his process of not wanting to initially follow his pops footsteps... It’s different. Jr. didn’t want to play for Esh. Not according to this profile... www.hoyabasketball.com/players/p_ewingjr.htmWhen Patrick Ewing Jr. moved from Atlanta to the Washington area in 2002, everyone assumed it was the signal that he was going to Georgetown. Problem was, Georgetown wasn't recruiting him, and other schools had backed off the 6-8 forward.
"I hadn't been recruited by many other people because they all assumed I was coming to Georgetown because of my father," said Ewing in this link to Athlon Sports. "My mom talked to people and put it out there that I wasn't committed to Georgetown yet."As for Ryan Mutombo, he probably just wants to have a similar recruiting process to the ones his peers are having...

For good and for bad, he is Dikembe’s son. The good likely far outweighs the bad. He should just accept his situation. His personal brand far outweighs his peers.... because of his father.

No reason why he doesn’t have a scholarship offer.

After listening to the podcast and spending a few minutes researching, Ryan seems to be an improving player with a high ceiling and a famous last name in a position with decreased importance.
He is not ranked. The recruiting reporter interviewed in the podcast expects him to redshirt. Without Mutombo as his last name, he would probably not be on Georgetown’s radar.
Perhaps his famous last name and association to Georgetown is depressing any high major interest in him. I don’t begrudge him a desire to be recruited, but I hope he just over-stated his thoughts out of frustration.

Why do you think GU was not recruiting him? He didn't want to come to play for Esh, yet other schools associated him with GU and were not recruiting him. Thus, his mother "talked to people..."

Squeaky wheel gets grease... I don’t know why everyone thinks I’m going to hook up with Ana De Amas. The fact of the matter is she hasn’t even asked me out.

Pat Sr. and Rita Ewing were recently divorced and it was discussed at the time that she didn't want her son being steered to Georgetown by his father.

I like how the interviewer asked about his dad and Ryan replied about Patrick Ewing.

Any time you hear the son of an NBA Hall of Famer is starting to emerge it’s smart to take a look. Mutombo, the son of Dikembe Mutombo, certainly made the quick walk to the back gym at Holy Innocents worthwhile. Mutombo stands every bit of 6-foot-11, and he’s equipped with good hands, impressive touch, feel for the game and tremendous passing ability.
Defensively, Mutombo rebounded his area and made it difficult on the opposition to score around the rim. Offensively, to go with facilitating out of the high post, he made mid-range jump shots and finished multiple times over his right shoulder. Mutombo is trending in a terrific direction and looked every bit the part of a high major prospect.
Recruiting: Has scholarship offers from Georgetown, Georgia Tech, Richmond and Indiana State.

I don't think there is anyone that had a better week than Ryan Mutombo. An offer from Richmond, followed by a 43 point explosion was quite the way to start off the Holiday season. The name Mutombo is synonymous with shot-blocking, but it's his improvements offensively that could take his recruitment to another level. Soft-touch around the rim and some extension on his range has continued to add value as he develops into a more well-rounded prospect. Having offers from Indiana State, Georgia Tech, and Georgetown, doesn't exactly qualify him as a sleeper, but it could be argued that he's currently undervalued. hoopseen.com/news/player/201911/potential-stock-risers-holiday-hoopsgiving

“He (Dikembe) tells me to block everything,” he added. “I go after every single ball when I’m down there. I’m really relentless.”
“I’d like to hear from UVA, UNC, Kentucky would be nice, all of the big schools that kids dream about when they’re growing up,” he said. “I think it would just be like an awesome experience to get to visit one of those top schools.”
Has a brief mention of our offer in there too. Also mentions he's 6'11 now. Might have to update the title of the thread
