Amen my friend. It is why religion and politics don’t and shouldn’t mix.

Literally treating kids like animals... What was their crime?
Can't imagine being a person who is proud of this policy.

You are a terrible person. Source considered so I thank you and wish you God’s blessings and pray for your soul. I do not know the intent of your statement. I do not know your circumstances. But what you wrote regarding Mexican illegal immigrants is quite frankly thoughtless and indeed terrible.

I live in a border state. I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international boundaries, but this zero-tolerance policy is cruel. It is immoral. And it breaks my heart. Our government should not be in the business of warehousing children in converted box stores or making plans to place them in tent cities in the desert outside of El Paso. These images are eerily reminiscent of the Japanese American internment camps of World War II, now considered to have been one of the most shameful episodes in U.S. history. We also know that this treatment inflicts trauma; interned Japanese have been two times as likely to suffer cardiovascular disease or die prematurely than those who were not interned. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/laura-bush-separating-children-from-their-parents-at-the-border-breaks-my-heart/2018/06/17/f2df517a-7287-11e8-9780-b1dd6a09b549_story.html?utm_term=.dca92e61ef0fFr. James Martin, SJ Dear friends: Like many people, I've resisted using this word, but it's time: the deliberate and unnecessary separation of innocent children from their parents, the penning up of children in cages like animals, is evil. It does not proceed from God or from any genuinely moral impulse. It is wantonly cruel and targets the most vulnerable. Its use has been cloaked in lies, another clear sign that it does not proceed in any way from God or from a genuinely moral impulse. And the results--untold misery, deep anguish, physical suffering, widespread division and, ultimately, despair--are also unmistakable signs that this is an evil. As St. Paul wrote, "You will know them by their fruits....every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit." (Mt 7:17). That is, the results enable us to recognize an evil. As such, we have a moral obligation to name it and fight against it. Anyone who participates in this kind of wanton cruelty is also guilty of this evil. "I was just following orders" went out with Nuremberg. The decision-makers and all who cooperate in these actions will be judged. "I was a stranger and you did not welcome me," said Jesus. (Mt 25).

According to different members of the administration (including Trump himself), the policy of separating children from their parents:
- isn't a policy - is a policy that is defensible, per the Bible - exists, but is the Democrats fault - exists, and they proudly see it as a deterrent
Did I miss anything?

According to different members of the administration (including Trump himself), the policy of separating children from their parents: - isn't a policy - is a policy that is defensible, per the Bible - exists, but is the Democrats fault - exists, and they proudly see it as a deterrent Did I miss anything? THE BIG IDEA: “We do not have a policy of separating families at the border,” Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen tweeted last night. “Period.” This formulation is striking because President Trump’s top domestic policy adviser, Stephen Miller, was quoted in Sunday’s New York Times touting the crackdown. “It was a simple decision by the administration to have a zero tolerance policy for illegal entry,” he said. “Period.” DHS announced last week that around 2,000 children have been taken from their families during the six weeks since the policy went into effect, and officials acknowledge the number may be even higher. More than a month after Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced Trump’s new “zero tolerance” policy to great fanfare, members of the administration continue to struggle with how to talk about it – alternating between defending the initiative as a necessary deterrent, distancing themselves, blaming Democrats, trying to use it as leverage for negotiations with Congress or denying that it exists at all. On Sunday alone, which happened to be Father’s Day, here’s a taste of what current and former members of Trump’s team had to say about taking kids away from their undocumented parents: “The policy is incredibly complicated, and it is one we need to do a better job of communicating,” said Marc Short, the president’s liaison to Capitol Hill, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. “We've not talked about the history of how we got to this point.” “Nobody likes seeing babies ripped from their mothers’ arms,” said Kellyanne Conway, counselor to the president, on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “As a mother, as a Catholic, as somebody who has got a conscience... I will tell you that nobody likes this policy.” Then she blamed the legislative branch. “Congress passed a law that it is a crime,” Conway said. “This is a congressional law from many years ago. It is a crime to enter this country illegally. So if they don’t like that law, they should change it.” Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani said on CBS’s “Face the Nation” that Sessions is “not giving the president the best advice” on how to handle this situation. “I know President Trump doesn't like the children taken away from their parents,” he said. “Jeff is not giving the president the best advice!” www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/paloma/daily-202/2018/06/18/daily-202-trump-team-cannot-get-its-story-straight-on-separating-migrant-families/5b2701f030fb046c468e6ef6/?utm_term=.6ae646188d05

Since the OP claims this is business as usual, in what American court room do we separate kids from their parents and then jailt their child in a cage? There are people who have been deported back to their country who still don't have their child.
This is a horrifically abusive policy, no great country would treat vulnerable children in such a manner.

I know and I know you come to this from a good place but it is exhausting to see people cloak their ideas in religion so selectively when the same people scream bloody murder about a crèche or menorah in the public square.

Feel like you're missing the big beats of Christianity if you're comparing kids being ripped away from their parents and terrorizing the powerless with separation of church and state and not saying prayers in school or the right place to put religious symbols.

The more you look at this, the more you see how utterly despicable this is. I don't think it's unusual for folks to point out the same people claiming to be the party of christian values is the same party that is ripping families apart at the border for committing a misdemeanor. This same group is denying entry to a woman who was raped and forced to be a slave because they say being forced to be a slave was giving material support to terrorists. It's disgusting.

I am not comparing them. I am just sick to death of the selective use of religion by those who want to all but eliminate it from public discourse until it suits them. What is happening to these children is awful. I await the better solution.

We already had a better solution bro... The better solution is not separating kids from their parents and it used to be policy until about a month ago. Republicans control everything and could stop this right now, but xenophobia is a hell of a drug. Hah.. funny joke... Pretty clear the animals aren't the people in the cages...

I do not support illegal immigration, and think this "Sanctuary" stuff is a bunch of nonsense. But what's going on now is an indefensible disgrace. I don't see how anyone who possesses the least amount of empathy (which eliminates Trump) could possibly disagree.

Nielsen has been an absolute embarrassment. Is this how you act as a person for others? Her claims of ignorance do nothing but demonstrate her own ignorance and lack of compassion. Period.

I don't think the folks posting articles on how Christian leaders view this subject means that they're "finding religion" now or are being selective. I think they're pointing out the fact that the views of these Christian leaders are usually held in high regard by the great majority of folks on the right so it's worth posting in this thread because it differs with what the leader of the GOP believes.. It's really no different than when I posted Paul Ryan's views on this subject.. It could be argued that it's the folks on the right(you) who are now being selective on the religious front, I guarantee come November all these GOP members will be heavily courting religious leaders come election time..

The real question here is: are the libs being owned? If so, Republicans will continue to defend this.

"Infest".... Yesterday he was lying that crime is way up in Germany because of an influx of immigrants despite the fact their crime rate is the lowest it's been in a quarter century.
We have a President who thinks advancing bigotry is the best way to activate his base...
