"According to Congress' own nonpartisan analysis, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act bills recently passed by the House and the Senate raise taxes on the poor and cut taxes on the rich, violating basic principles of justice," wrote Bishop Dewane. "Congress has proposed a web of wide-ranging and complex changes to the tax code, yet is approaching the process at a pace that makes it difficult even for experts in the impacted areas to analyze effects." www.usccb.org/news/2017/17-243.cfmWe recognize that Friday evening's Executive Order has generated fear and untold anxiety among refugees, immigrants, and others throughout the faith community in the United States. In response to the Order, we join with other faith leaders to stand in solidarity again with those affected by this order, especially our Muslim sisters and brothers. We also express our firm resolution that the Order's stated preference for "religious minorities" should be applied to protect not only Christians where they are a minority, but all religious minorities who suffer persecution, which includes Yazidis, Shia Muslims in majority Sunni areas, and vice versa. While we also recognize that the United States government has a duty to protect the security of its people, we must nevertheless employ means that respect both religious liberty for all, and the urgency of protecting the lives of those who desperately flee violence and persecution. It is our conviction as followers of the Lord Jesus that welcoming the stranger and protecting the vulnerable lie at the core of the Christian life. And so, to our Muslim brothers and sisters and all people of faith, we stand with you and welcome you. www.usccb.org/news/2017/17-031.cfmwww.washingtonpost.com/powerpost/ryan-dismissed-house-chaplain-leaving-lawmakers-questioning-rational/2018/04/26/ec2334ee-4976-11e8-8b5a-3b1697adcc2a_story.html?hpid=hp_regional-hp-cards_rhp-card-politics%3Ahomepage%2Fcard

I saw Father Pat (and even talked with him once) at the West Coast Conference Mass during the basketball WCC championships. He was there to root for Gonzaga, his alma mater. Besides being the House chaplain, he also taught a course or two at Georgetown. At one of the Masses he gave the homily. I think it was this time he mentioned the Hoya-China conflict during the Hoyas tour several years ago. He was essentially saying that it was poor sportsmanship on the part of Georgetown. After the Mass I corrected him and told him the rest of the story.
EDIT: Father Pat went to Gonzaga for a masters. His undergraduate degree was from Claremont, where he still, I believes, holds some track or cross country records.

Just a quick message to say I am livid over this firing. God will send these republicans to Hell for sure.

I suggest Sister Jean. She has thousands of children. And she definitely has a little age.

How dare someone pray for equal treatment of all people. Pretty much tells you all you need to know about those with power in the current GOP.

Catholicism only has resonance in Republican politics if abortion is the issue.

Catholicism only has resonance in Republican politics if abortion is the issue. It is also said that Catholicism has resonance in Democratic politics if abortion is not the issue. Neither party has a monopoly on resonance.

Catholicism only has resonance in Republican politics if abortion is the issue. It is also said that Catholicism has resonance in Democratic politics if abortion is not the issue. Neither party has a monopoly on resonance. Democrats would not fire a chaplain for antiseptic prayers about the value of human life. You're promoting false equivalence.
