Forget what they said. I remember watching Mutombo. Until he figured it out, he looked really rough out there - especially offensively. It seemed like he rebounded the ball off his forehead instead of with extended arms. His gift was height and not athleticism. A great example of a work of art in progress. Another example - Wilson looks like an Olympian compared to Roy Hibbert at the same age. Those were both very funny and highly accurate. I remember thinking something more harsh at the time, just didn't say it out loud. Glad they turned into swans. We are going to be more than ok at the 4 and 5 next year even without a top 5 talent. I wasn’t around to see Mutombo but I was at Georgetown for Roy. He could barely get up and down the court as a freshman. Couldn’t defend a cone. I remember being at that ND game when III sent him out there for the end of the game and we were all like “wtf is he doing?” And then Ashanti actually dishes him the ball for the win on the final drive! Luckily the one thing he always had from day 1 was soft hands. It was kind of a seminal moment in his career I think. The rest as they say is history.

I’ve told my kids that with a willing attitude and a great teacher, someone can learn anything. In the case of Wilson, Hibbert, and MUtombo, they already have what can’t be taught. Georgetown’s history shows we know how to teach bigs. If guys like Wahad, Tim , and Wilson practice mindfully and stay healthly, their improvement will be amazing. THe competition between them witl only make them better. And if they follow the lead of the other gym rats like Makinjo, watch out.

Roy averaged 20 in high school Wilson doesn’t even average 10. Sometimes I think we sale Roy short Don't think we did. He improved greatly in his years here. Actually the increase from 1st to 2nd year was amazing. If he averaged 20 points per game, it was because of the competition. Wilson is going up against a much better level of competition and very few sets ran for him.

He has a real chance to become my favorite player over the next few years. Seems very humble with a little nasty streak on defense and in how he attacks the rim on those dunks. Will be an underdog story as Pat sees something that we might be underestimating in this young man.

The interview clip is what really stood out to me. Difficult to believe that a kid in HS is that composed and natural in an interview and talking about defense and team ball. I know they're sort of canned quotes but my irrational hopes have to start somewhere.
