Was hoping for at least a couple of name schools, but excited for the experience for the team.
Final Kenpom ratings:
Georgetown - 94 Austin Peay - 189 Ohio - 193 Campbell - 218 Loyola Marymount - 234 South Florida - 279 Central Connecticut - 310 Florida A&M - 341

If you didn't get a little chuckle after seeing the teams in the Jamaica Invitational then there is something wrong. It's got to be the worst teams ever in a destination tournament. I wonder if Pat got to pick the teams since he's clearly going to be th draw of the whole thing. To be fair, it was that bad last year. Not a high profile tourney, but hopefully it could grow. It's cool for Ewing to go back to Jamaica, and if we are going to play some of these teams, Id rather play them on a neutral floor anyway. On the flip side, if these are the teams we are playing in a tourney - heaven help us for the teams we play at home Maybe we will just play DII.

Jamaica worked out ok for Florida State last year. If they go with a similar format to last season (when they could only put together a 7 team field), figure we're playing one or two of those teams at Home.

We have a lot of young pieces. This is the type of field they need to settle into the college game and bond with their teammates.

On the topic of format, last year they had two separate brackets, so if they follow the same format the Hoyas would likely only have the potential to face two of the top three teams on that list (in addition to one of the lower level teams at home).

Yeah, FSU is a good model for what we could be this year. They sort of came out of nowhere. They played in Jamaica, had a couple of decent other OOC games, went 9-9 in conference, and made a run in the tourney. The problem is that their 9-9 included winning 5 really good conference games, which IMO, is a bit easier to come by in the ACC. For us, it means having to beat Nova, Xavier, Butler, Seton Hall and Providence at a minimum. That's a tall order for a 9-9 team.

I expected a better field as I mentioned earlier in this thread. I’m pretty disappointed not but I have full trust in Ewing that this schedule will improve. There are still enough games left to get this schedule better. I hope we haven’t heard the best parts of this schedule just yet.

Obviously not the across-the-board challenging tournament we would all love to watch in November - but at least most of these teams are an improvement over the group of 300+ teams we played last season. It will be fun to see the love that Patrick should get from his native island.

It's not great, but I'm seeing slow improvement:
Here was last year's Non Con schedule, according to RPI quadrants: Quadrant 1: 0 games Quadrant 2: Cuse Quadrant 3: @richmond Quadrant 4: 9 games
And here's 2018-19 so far (using last year's RPI):
Quadrant 1: @ cuse Quadrant 2: Quadrant 3: @ illinois, 1-2 Jamaica games Quadrant 4: Richmond, 1-2 Jamaica games
With 6 more games tbd.
It's slow progress, but it's still progress. And it's enough already to keep us out of the 20 worst non-con schedules in the league (low bar, I know).
I'd be okay if the remaining games were broken up like this: 1-2 against RPI 101-200 (or better?) 2-3 against RPI 201-275 1-3 against RPI 276+
I'd be happy if they're any stronger than that, or if one or two are road/neutral games. It's still not improvement at the speed many of us would like, but it would be a considerable upgrade from last season.
For the 2019-20 season, I'd need to see at least an equivalent jump in schedule quality, which would mean finally having a couple of worthwhile opponents at home, and a big preseason tournament.

And the collateral benefit of national press coverage for the "Ewing Returns to Jamaica" story -- I'll wager there will be such coverage. Nothing wrong with that.

I think we're a bit obsessed with year to year kenpom and RPI. Richmond had its first losing season in a decade. That's not a bad game regardless of last year's RPI quadrant. Coppin State is technically in the same quadrant but there's no comparison. Basically there are three types of teams; Those that have almost no chance of being bad (Syracuse) Those that have no chance of being good (Florida A&M) Everyone else The first ones help if you win, the second ones hurt no matter what, and the third ones only hurt if you lose. I would have liked one more in the first category in this tournament but since that's not the case, just want to avoid Florida A&M in the bracket and win it.

With the unannounced games to come, I hope we get at least one, but preferably two shots at a tournament level team (at-Large worthy). Govan is in the fold; need to give our team lots of chances at quality wins. Conference is looking like it will be taking a step back overall so we can’t just assume it’s going to be a six bid league.

Do not change money at the Montego Bay (Sangster) Airport. Assuming you have any to bring.
