From what I am hearing we are going to have 16 home games and while we will step up the level of competition, it’s still going to be a work in progress. Our biggest non-conference games will be on the road. We will be playing in the Dave Gavitt games as well as Cuse on the road.
We have also committed to a pre-season tournament (one we’ve never been part of before)....fun destination....details to come soon.

Thanks B&G. Three big games, three decent games, three cupcakes and a tournament would be fine by me in year 2. Looking forward to the details.

Yes, I think the Jamaica Classic field featuring Florida State was last season. You cannot be in the same November tournament within 4 years, so the field will be different.
The Gavitt game is good news. We should also have Richmond at home, unless for some reason that wasn't a home-and-home or it has been cancelled.
The unfortunate reality of modern college basketball schedule is that you're only going to get an occasional marquee home OOC opponent. The biggest matches are almost always in the November tournaments, unless it's part of separate scheduling like the Syracuse series or the Kansas series we had.
These are all steps in the right direction. Gavitt + Syracuse + Richmond + OOC opponents mostly in the 125-250 range would be a good OOC for this upcoming season. It would likely be enough to get us into the NCAA tournament at 9-9 in the Big East, while also not being oppressively difficult. Given that this is a team that very well could be better in February than November (given how young some of our guys will be), I think that's key. We want to be able to have a late surge and still be competitive for the NCAA tournament.

Last year was the first year for the Jamaica Classic so that could also be the reason for what some may perceive as a weaker field.
Even if at worst its comparable to last year anything is better than what we rolled out OOC in 2017 so this a good step in the right direction.

I agree - the tournament with Duke, Texas, and Cal would be great. But I was under the impression that's for 2019-2020, not this upcoming season? Either way, I hope it happens.

They site says 2017. Is this a typo or was that last years field? Sorry about this, I didn't look at the dates.. I only saw 7 teams & just assumed the tourney was looking for an 8th program.. The format of the Jamaica Classic is a little odd with 7 teams, so I'm not sure if it was just a function of being a first year tournament and not filling the field or if they will keep that format going forward. But essentially there were four "hosts' showcase" teams (FSU, Colorado State, Tulane, Fordham) and three "visitors' round-robin" teams (Hartford, LIU, Miami Ohio). The host teams played two doubleheaders, while the visitor teams played a round robin. There were also on campus games related to the event for the host teams (for example, last year FSU played against Citadel). I guess we'll see what the field looks like for 2018 and how many teams are included.

At first, I was angry about this game as they were a weak team last year. But, Illinois has a very solid recruiting class and if they get Ramey would have a very good one. They have 3 top 150 guys according to 247 and one that’s top 30. These guys would be a solid road opponent early in the year. As long as Syracuse and Richmond aren’t the only other two big games I don’t have a problem with this. If they get Ramey they could very well be a tournament team and would be a very good opportunity for a quality road win.

We finished 8th last year and havent made the tournament in 4 years. Did we think we'd pull Michigan State?
Legit game, two teams on the upswing.

Awesome. I live in Chicago and will plan to be there. Can’t wait to see this team in person.

Illinois is a good opponent for us. A team that's been down -- but has some talent, and new coach, and a solid class coming in.
With Jessie back, I think we're a neutral court favorite. He'd do major damage against their weak frontcourt.
We've now got SYR, Richmond, Illinois, and maybe a good game or two in the Jamaica Classic (if we play & if the teams improve in yr 2). That's a much better start to the OOC slate. Sub in a couple of MAC/AEast/Patriot opponents for the MEAC ones, and we're back in respectable territory.
ONE REQUEST: Please give us out-of-towners at least 1 game to come down to DC for before January 1.

Now we are at the point where we argue, "Of course we suck, you cant expect us to play good teams." Ok, then. Mostly, I just think it's hilarious that after getting back into the Gavett games we end up playing pretty much the worst B1G team. Seems fitting, you are right.
