I know it's just one game, and yes I was not impressed with Akinjo after our first two games, but last night he showed flashes of Jalen Brunson. His ability to penetrate and hit the pull up jumper as well as his total fearlessness and end game take charge attitude was classic Brunson. Most important, like Brunson, Akinjo seems poised to be the guy who takes this team on his back and carries it for the next few years. James has more natural ability than Brunson. Where Jalen made himself the best pg in college basketball was his ability to run a team, his leadership, his ability to defend and make the biggest of plays. Plus, Jay Wright smartly built a roster around him that hid some of his deficiencies. If James can get to the point where he can run a team like Brunson did, he has a chance to be an absolute superstar on the collegiate level

I'm just so happy to have a PG who can handle the ball and not turn it over A) with a modicum of defensive pressure, and B) when he changes hands.

v ILL - Hoyas up 1 with :40 to go, Akinjo hits jumper to put Hoyas up 3 v USF - Hoyas down 3 with :04 to go, Akinjo hits THREE to send game to OT v USF - Hoyas up 2 with :30 to go, Akinjo hits layup to stretch lead to 4
Some pretty darn big plays by our freshman PG. Now if only he could cut down on the TOs!

I hadn’t realized until the USF game that Akinjo is just 17! So many freshman at one and done schools are 19, but I’d take Akinjo over many of them.

Turnovers have been an issue but after 5 games he is 7th in assists amongst freshman guards. 3rd if you restrict it to HM players..

He is going to have some ups and downs doing the start of this season, like all freshman. He has the ability to control the ball and tempo for his team and they finally have a player who can create offense for himself and his teammates. It seems like when he struggles it is because he is trying to do more than he needs to do. If he has a turnover or missed shot he looks like he tries to come down the next time and make up for that play. Sometimes that has led him to force plays. He will grow out of that and continue to improve his decision making as he plays more games and gets more coaching from the staff. He has all the skills and the mentality that the team has needed in a point guard for years (and he is fun to watch)

Akinjo has had trouble with pick-and-roll this season, but he ran it well with Tayson Cherry (6' 10" now at ASU) on the Oakland Soldiers grassroots team. The defenders are a little longer now. It seems he could find a good PnR partner in Leblanc who sets picks decently, passes back, and can get up.

I am looking forward to actually having a functioning pnr offense.

this boy is 17 years young the fact that he already has a tight handle, if he stays four years here i dont see why cant have the same impact as what shabazz and kemba had in college.

LOVE this kid! FINALLY...a point guard who can handle the ball against pressure, attack the basket, create a shot, and has ice water in his veins when the game is on the line. He wants the last shot! Also a great passer in traffic who will make his teammates better and run the floor. He will only get better with each game, both on offense and defense. Have to accept some turnovers as he learns to play at the highest level.

Georgetown shot just 5-of-18 (27.8 percent) from behind the arc against the Bulls. In their opening round loss to the Loyola Marymount Lions on Friday, they shot 3-of-19 (15.8 percent) from behind the arc in a 65-52 loss.
Akinjo stepped up big on Nov. 13 in a big 88-80 victory over the Illinois Fighting Illini last Tuesday. He put up 19 points, seven assists and three rebounds in a comeback victory. LeBlanc finished with 14 points and seven rebounds off the bench in that one as well.
The Hoyas are still figuring things out but they may have found their closer for the next four seasons if he stays that long. They have a tough opponent coming up after Thanksgiving in the Campbell Camels on Nov. 24.
Their frontcourt is stout with Govan and freshman forward Josh LeBlanc off the bench, but the Hoyas are a young team. LeBlanc is also another young big man that’s earned minutes as the team’s sixth man. He’s put up double figures in points in three of their five games of the season so far and has been a burden to bear on the glass.

Boy ole Boy Akinjo continues to get much more confidence in every game...he is what we needed for quite some time.
