Even PE couldn't keep that a secret, it would have leaked out if a decision was already made.

I don't see Yurt7 in the above photo at Cap One Arena...may mean nothing because I think he's allowed to practice with the team even if not cleared to play yet...but there may be some nuance to that...with the loss of Derrickson AND Walker, I think we need him this year...he could even be on the court at the same time as Jesse in many instances in that he plays like a stretch 5, and both he and Jesse shoot the 3 pretty well...double low post on D...I like Sir Saxa's reasoning, but I think that if he were cleared the program would announce that immediately to influence fan support/ticket sales and possibly recruiting (Akok, Wahab)...Lastly, I guess its possible that he could be made eligible for the second semester...here's hoping for sooner rather than later...

Yes, Yurt7 can practice with the team.

Yeah I think the case is closed on Omer Yurt7 competing in games this season....

I know people are disappointed, but I am cool with this. Govan and Y7 would not be a solid tandem together, especially on defense. Furthermore, next year's team is looking like it could be a top 15 squad easily. Akinko, McClung/Blair, Pickett, Leblanc, and Y7 would be the most talented starting 5 we have put on the floor since our Wright/Freeman/Monroe team. Throw in just one elite wing gives us a team with FF aspirations IMO.

Yeah without Y7 we will need either Trey, Jesse or the freshman to shoot 37+% from 3 to keep the paint open for our guards.... also, I'm not sure we can count on Morko being back next year.... I expect a better year from JP, with the upgrade in PG....

We're a top 25 team with Yurt7..
You can play twin towers with them because they both space the floor and can hit from outside.
The problem with Mutombo & Mourning was Mournig had limited range (mid range) and Mutombo had no range. So they couldn't space the floor and that eventually catches up you in the tournament.
Not only that but Yurt7 as backup prevents Govan from getting in foul trouble and keeps Govan fresh.

Is it right to be treating this with absolute finality, as opposed to best info available at the time of the report? Is it still possible that no definitive decision has been given yet? It would be nice to know officially whether the waiver request has been approved, denied or is still under review...

NCAA is still granting waivers. May not be settled yet.

He could always be cleared for the 2nd half of the season.

NCAA STILL granting waivers. I wish there was an announcement one way or the other. Is it possible a decision on Yurt is still pending?

At this point I'm not even sure I want him to get the waiver. Yes it would be a big boost for this years team but next years team absolutely needs him. If he does get the waiver and shows well he could leave and we would be in bad shape.

If a waiver for the second half is available, I'd definitely want it, as it would put this team into NCAA-range for sure.
Plus, if he did show well, particularly if he was improved from last year, good enough to leave, it'd be another big selling point for Coach's development of big men, and could push Wahab over the top toward the Hoyas, not to mention some of the top 2020 big men.

That would be crazy if Double Yurtseven becomes eligible. I can't even imagine anybody outside the blue bloods being able to stop us.

New Mexico just was denied on the request to allow Carlton Bragg play immediately. Cleared for after first semester. He started at Kansas and transferred to Arizona State but left after one semester and never played there and still being required to sit out a full year. Apparently even ASU supported the petition by acknowledging that he was forced off the team. These are the type of rulings that continue to fuel the fire when players complain about NCAA transfer rules.
