This board has become more mellow over the years. Glide would have fit right in back in the Esh days of hoyatalk. There were good discussions with deep basketball knowledge then too. I miss that part of it.

I miss that part of it. Back then the board was just a bunch of ignorant racists talking about stuff they couldn't understand cause they weren't from the DMV and hadn't coached their kid's middle school team. And we didn't have a point guard who was a true floor general. Lots of passionate Hoya fans, but I prefer conversing, online or otherwise, with the ones who learned to play nice in the sandbox and who don't call me names or mock me for disagreeing with them. Sounds like there are a few of us around. I hoped for a long time that this guy would join our ranks, but when it became obvious that he would not, I was glad the mods took action. The board is a better place for their leadership.

I tend to ignore the hot headed parts (good chunk is hanging on DMV travel team courts and working between benches where things get really hot). I like the good discussion about details, which is where I appreciate Glide. I also miss in game chat as there aren't as many that participate in that. There are some really good folks around and I deeply appreciate this board, but I found the ability to block on a personal level helps.

I don't think Glide specifically targeted anyone.
He just had strong opinions about what he thought was right.
I just think he bumped heads with people who had just as strong of an opinion as he did.

Oh please, he called me racist and mocked my screen name - let's not make excuses cause we feel bad for the guy. He is on twitter still saying that the board overall is racist. Let's not sugar coat. PS: If he knew how much weed I had to smoke to get this nickname...

Glide could argue vehemently with a person in one post, and then agree with that same person and like their very next post. lol.
Just saying, Glide was glide. Some were annoyed by him. Some were not.

Why does this thread even exist? I am shocked it has been allowed to stay here without getting locked. It's in the basketball section, too, and this is a very personalized thread, which is a little bizarre. I didn't think it was a practice to have threads dedicated to a specific person. My understanding is that glide is still posting over on Casual, so it seems like that's a better place for something like this.
I come here to talk Georgetown basketball, not about specific posters who have lost their posting privileges (which here, requires a lot of persistent pushing).

I'll start by saying the obvious, Glide was not great at interacting with people who disagreed with him and he often overreacted in those interactions.
However, he was always a really nice and funny guy when he and I would exchange direct messages. Also, he's not some anonymous troll, he is a visible fan of Georgetown basketball who used to prominently sit in my section at games and is emotionally connected to the program in multiple ways.
It's probably because of his overreactions that people were pretty harsh on him, and I don't fault people for that. But it seemed to result in people tangentially attacking him for things that happen all the time here. Starting a thread about a recruit that the Hoyas haven't been linked to yet? No one complained when hoyaboya created a thread for Bryce Golden nearly a year before the Hoyas were connected to him. Writing repetitive posts that didn't necessarily move a discussion forward? No one complains when someone like jctn writes posts or starts threads for rants about topics that have already been discussed elsewhere. Similarly, no one complained when there was a thread about lichoya's return to HoyaTalk, while people aren't happy about this thread.
Anyways, I get it, Glide's overreactions really upset a lot of people, which caused them to have negative reactions to anything he did. I'm not condoning what he has said or how he said it. I just wish people would stop taking shots at him now that the moderators have taken action. We're all adults and we should be able to move on.

No. He called people whom he never met racists.

Absolutely no appreciation for that poster here. The only thing he brought to this board was vile and petty insults.

That's what I meant by his overreactions. Again, I don't condone the things he said, and honestly the moderators probably should have stepped in earlier. But after it was clear how he reacted to others, I'm not sure why people continued to interact with him in that way. I guess I'm not surprised that two of your three posts during this past season were to provoke him.

I don't really understand why you consistently went out of your way to provoke him if you didn't like how he reacted to people. Though since you have a history of putting down other posters, you were probably just trying to get him to react negatively.

Anyone remember hoyaeighties and bronxhoya. Ha. I believe hoyaeighties was an earlier board name Glide used. I, too, had some interesting PM and email conversations with Glide, going back years before he was Glide. In all of his various incarnations on this board, and he's had a few, he always managed to melt down and get himself banned. Personally, I was (once again) tired of his narcissistic, I know more about basketball than you, preaching down to the board. His constant attacks on posters was also a complete turnoff, especially when the posters didn't deserve it. That said, I hope he gets another life here after a sufficient cooling off period.

Certainly provocation is not justification for his racism and disrespect/delegitimizing of what an entire race endured. From the pictures he is a grown adult male. How could one be provoked by anonymous posters on a message board? Perhaps so much of his identity comes from his self-proclaimed expertise.

Very interesting! I had no idea Glide was hoyaeighties but it makes sense. I think the mods do such a terrific job on this site they really let a lot go and give u a lot of rope. I know other boards give warnings left and right and quick to ban. Once PE gets things going this board will be rocking again.

But if you felt that way about his reactions, why did you engage with him in light-hearted jest other than to encourage him to continue his negative behavior? I agree, he often overreacted in a negative way that was inexcusable, but I don't know him personally so I don't know why he reacts that way.
