Selfishly, we need Jessie back next year. Thank you, Captain Obvious. That said, if Jesse keeps playing anything like this during the Big East season, he should go pro. He needs to look out for the best interests of his family. 15+ ppg and 10+ rpg in the Big East at his size and he'll get drafted...have to do it and it would be a feather in Ewing's cap from a recruiting standpoint.

I think the most prevalent question for this season is whether Govan stays or goes after the season. Hope he stays...but have a feeling it may affect our pursuit of Moses Brown and other 2018 bigs...

with the way the freshmen bigs are playing now guys like ayton bagley etc and a guy like billy preston who is young and is projected to be a second rounder i wont mind for jessie to stick around kind of like what kamisky did it didnt hurt his stock instead it made it better because he had a winning team.
Next year we may have a better record with Pickett and other frosh a year under their belt, plus malinowski and mclung carter and leblanc. Jessie should show more poise and leadership next year. I bet he gets drafted if he goes this year.

If Ewing can convince Govan to stay for his senior season, Hoyas will be very good next year. I expect big improvements to come from Walker, Blair and Pickett, and our incoming freshmen will make a big difference--McClung will give us a real guard, LeBlanc will be an important energy/rebounding guy, and Carter should provide some depth. Plus we get Malinowski to spread the floor and Mourning as another depth player at the 5. If we land Moses Brown we would have one of the top front courts in the nation, and if we landed another PG, we would have more options to break the press and move the ball.
You can see the makings of of team that can compete as soon as next year--this year as good as Govan is the team simply has too many holes and is too young in key positions. Would be great for Govan to stick around so he can actually taste some success as a Hoya.

I think if he left now he would be the 6 or 7th big picked

Somehow I dont see the expectation of Trey Mourning as a center. His father was. From his high school career, I believe his outside shooting was touted as a big asset. I don't remember much about his game with the Hoyas-I remember him on the perimeter, perhaps as a stretch 4. I would love to see him play at any position. Who remembers the strength of his game?

He has post moves but the build of a stretch 4. He has a solid face-up shot but I don't recall if his range went all the way out to the 3pt line.

Hope Govan stays...hope Govan stays...Hope Govan stays. That will be the biggest question going forward.

Govan's potential draft position may not be the ultimate determining factor in whether he stays or not. As we saw with LJ Peak, just the chance to get paid somewhere for playing ball can be a huge enticement.
He is going to have to weigh some form of an immediate payout vs another year of tutelage under Ewing plus a Georgetown degree. Immediate gratification vs more risk (injury) but a potentially better long term payout and more security. Interesting choice.

I almost feel like there is a stigma attached to playing for four years. Like you weren't good enough to go early. I hope he stays, but not sure if I would.

A lot of the questions about Jessie's future will be answered in the next month or two as he plays against the Big East schedule. Even tonight he plays against a good sized strong inside presence for DePaul. He should dominate that guy if he is really a legit NBA prospect. He needs to show he can be the best interior player on the floor most nights he plays in conference games. If he does that then he will attract alot of NBA attention. If not, then he will be a fringe prospect who would be slated for a year or so in the G-league.

Very true but Govan is in a unique situation in regards to Ewing. Obviously he's in the enviable position of learning under one of the top five players ever to play at his position. Any center committing to play for Ewing today can choose how many years to stay in the program and learn, but uniquely, Jesse has two at most and will need to say for four years just to get two with Ewing. That prospect just may be enough to overcome other factors that would normally lead him away after this season.

Govan may have a tough time putting up big scoring numbers, since it seems clear that Big East teams are going to swarm him in the post and challenge our guards/wings to beat them. And I think they are going to win that bet most of the time, while limiting Govan's scoring opportunities. I doubt that factors much into his decision about next year, but it will be really impressive if he can put up good scoring numbers against good teams that are totally focused on shutting him down.

Govan is not the physical center that can score with three bodies draped on him, i.e., Ewing, Mourning, Sweetney. That said, he needs to figure out how to demand the ball and score with a sagging defense.

I don't mind going out on a limb. And I will say this much: I think Govan would be making a huge mistake to leave at the end of this year. He is not ready. I see the growth factor as in his favor. Stay. Learn. Develop. Increase your value.
