At basketball. At coaching. Not sure I agree. Certainly hasn't shown that to date. Lavin was 92-72 at St. John's( 81-55 if you exclude the games coached by Mike Dunlap) 2 NCAA's including the year he was fired and 2 NITs. Only year they didn't make post season was the year he was out 46-44 in conference (40-32 without the dunlap year) Mullin to date is 38-60 (12-42) Lavin definitely walked into a much sweeter situation than Mullin, but that was the administration's fault for letting Laving coach and try to recruit without a contract extension. Lavin was also a better recruiter overall (at least until the end of his tenure, when he wasn't). So while Lavin may have had some of the same troubles as Mullin (i.e., retaining kids he recruited and maintaining eligibility, etc.), his overall pool of talent was fairly strong, and ultimately, talent is going to get you wins, even if the coaching staff isn't operating at optimal levels. Mullin has recruited some good talent, like Ponds, but it seems like him and his staff have trouble putting anything together. I just remember his first season being at a St. John's game at MSG (against our Hoyas), and I was right behind the St. John's bench. During timeouts and in huddles, Mullin was often not even participating and stood to the side. I realize that the assistants may have been more equipped to handle these situations anyway (and oftentimes what coaches say in huddles is kind of dumb anyway, at least when they are recorded), it just came across as lack of interest. To be fair, in the years since, I've noticed that less of Mullin and he's seemed more engaged, though. The situations each coach inherited makes a comparison of records almost meaningless. Of course, I admit to a strong anti-Lavin bias.

Weems to Depaul is great for Depaul and hence the Big East. I came across a bunch of incredulous, accusatory and angry responses on twitter from Michigan State fans and some fans of other big programs. I hope this commitment holds up so those bitter punks can cry in their beer. One guy put it perfectly for me when rejoicing the choice by saying it great to see highly ranked recruits go somewhere other than the same six schools. Absolutely. And lowly DePaul beating out Michigan St, Michigan and Ohio State is an example of how it is possible for "little" schools to win some battles. I keep shaking my head over this site when people bemoan that the Hoyas need to bring in elite recruits and when the Hoyas pursue such players people start claiming the team doesn't have a chance going against the blue bloods for those guys. Enough of that nonsense. When did Vanderbilt become a blue blood because they are punching above their weight and bringing in great talent. Why not Georgetown which has more of a history with successful basketball? Heck, DePaul's fanbase, oncourt success and home crowds are even worse than Gtown's over the past decade, but the Blue Demons got the job done anyway with Weems.

Big loss for Nova but to me Spellman is the key to how open next season will be in the BE..

Rumors are DiVincezo has a guarantee from Danny Ainge that the Celtics will take him with the 27th pick...

DiVincezo had way too much to lose and not a lot to gain from coming back. His athleticism will get him drafted for sure.

If by somehow St. John's gets him and he's eligible this upcoming season (which I doubt but you never know with the NCAA), and Ponds returns, the Red Storm will easily have the best backcourt in conference and one of the best in the country. Either way it would be a WIN-WIN for them if he ends up at St. John's and he's eligible this upcoming season or the 2019-2020 season. More importantly I hope and pray Heron's mom's health improves....

Another post--Georgetown has moved from 8th to 7th on his pre-season list.
(Xavier isn't finishing 8th, BTW.)

Creighton, Seton Hall and Butler lost more than the Hoyas did, return not as strong a core and have overall weaker recruiting classes coming in. So how are they considered to be likely better going into next season? This all comes down to the Hoyas' rep over the past few seasons, not on any true measurement. On paper the Hoyas are stronger, better. I don't care even if people on this site disagree. They can fight me on this one. Marquette should be above most of those teams too.

That makes things interesting. They'd still be useless in the middle, but that'd be a serious backcourt.
