Very glad to see the staff shaking the JUCO bushes- there is talent to be found! With few exceptions (i.e., Jerome Williams), junior college players have not been effective at Georgetown. Maybe the staff could focus more on local kids that Georgetown seems to ignore, and that end up at Villanova instead. Georgetown's JC players in the Big East era: Ben Gillery ...1987,88 (Hutchinson, KS) John Turner...1989 (Allegany, MD, transferred) Brian Kelly...1991,92 (Cincinnati Tech, OH) George Butler...1994,95 (Tyler, TX, left school) Jerome Williams..1995,96 (Montgomery, MD) Godwin Owinje...1996,97 (Bismarck, ND) Trez Kilpatrick...1998,99 (Neosho, KS) Lee Scruggs...2000,01 (Daytona, FL) Jonathan Mulmore...2017,18 (Allegany, MD) Turner would have been very useful but for his affinity for one Rayful Edmond III. While accounts differ, the story is that Big John told him and Zo to stay away. Zo listened; Turner left.

Known violation #1 by Alexander, which happened in the summer, far before he was kicked off the team in January: Three LSU basketball players received summons on June 16 for allegedly shooting paintballs at pedestrians on campus, according to reports. The LSU newspaper, The Reveille, reported summons were issued to Galen Ishan Alexander, 18, of Lafayette; Mayan Keer Kiir, 19, of Bradenton, Florida; and Wayde Kenneth Sims, 19, of Baton Rouge. The three students were released after the summons were issued. Police responded to a report that a person walking along Dalrymple Drive was hit by paintballs. On Wednesday night, LSU basketball coach Will Wade released a statement: “I’m aware of the situation and we are dealing with the matter internally. I’m extremely disappointed in these players and the poor judgment they used. This is no way to represent LSU or our basketball program. They have a clear understanding of what our expectations are as a program both on and off the court.” www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/sports/lsu/article_82c92116-5c6e-11e7-b007-abbd8ea179f4.html

Turner, Butler and Scruggs could all ball. Academics and behavioral issues are always in play.

This is an area where you really have to trust the staff because they have a lot more information than we have.

I would think that if this was the only issue while he was there he would have likely got suspended, but probably not asked to leave the program. I don't have a problem giving a kid a second chance if the staff feels like he has learned his lesson and has matured, but if he is a multiple offender and could not keep himself out of trouble at LSU, I am not sure he would be positive addition to the program Coach Ewing is trying to build. They did not have much patience with Sodom last year and I get the impression they have set some expectations for everyone on the team and are not looking to add anyone with questionable character. No problem with the staff investigating every possible recruit and I trust their judgement so I guess we will see where it ends up.

Scruggs was really good on offense...I really wasn't paying close enough attention back then to grade his defense...

Multiple offender - the paintball incident was the only published and specific reference, which occurred last summer. However, when Will Wade booted Alexander off the team in January, he inferred that there were ongoing issues: “Galen will take a leave of absence from our team for the rest of the season and look for other places at the end of the season to move his life in a positive direction,” Wade said. www.seccountry.com/lsu/lsu-basketball-players-dismissed-mayan-kiir-galen-alexander

Idk... They definitely need to do there research here, but it seems like If the kid was playing well he would still be on the team. They had other kids caught up in that same stuff that are.

I agree that you leave no stone unturned, but we did let Sodom go. Don’t want kids that could disrupt the team.
