I've seen some suspicion online that the allegations are being leveled in an attempt to enable UConn to terminate Kevin Ollie's contract for cause. That would be extraordinarily cynical. . .and not beyond the scope of what Husky Nation would attempt.

I wonder when Uconn packs up football and moves back to FCS? Having 2 flailing revenue generating sports is a major problem. With FBS football attendance heading south and schools starting to take capacity out of stadiums, the writing seems to be on the wall if only Uconn could read it.

That football move was biggest mistake they ever made. The then AD was hailed as a visionary, a genius. Only Penn State has been able to thrive this side of Columbus and this far north of Blacksburg VA. Boston College has been hanging by a thread for years... there's just not enough talent in New England

It appears that UConn leases Pratt & Whitney Stadium (formerly Rentschler Field) from the State of Connecticut, under an agreement that expires June 30, 2023. The lease agreement requires that UConn plays all home football games at P&W, and that in the event of a breach, the Connecticut Office of Policy and Management (which operates the stadium) can seek injunctive relief and lost profit. The lost profit is estimated to be $500,000 per game. www.cga.ct.gov/2008/rpt/2008-R-0223.htmAssuming six home games per season, with five remaining seasons on the hook under the lease agreement, that would be a potential damage claim of $15 million as of today (and reducing by $3 million per season thereafter). Certainly, UConn is losing money on the rental of P&W every game, and playing in FCS would be a bigger loss as attendance would undoubtedly drop as well. However, the net positive to the UConn athletic program, especially the basketball program, would offset the immediate financial hit. Yes, the writing is on the wall. But the State of Connecticut has its own financial concerns (which has led to the possibility of the reinstitution of tolls on the Connecticut Turnpike aka I-95). It is unlikely that the Connecticut legislature would permit a lease redraft which reduced the rental fee due from UConn. Is the school willing to lose more money on football, in the short term, to benefit the basketball program?

Is the school willing to lose more money on football, in the short term, to benefit the basketball program? Were it not for a end-around block by Boston College, UConn would be getting a check for $24 million a year and dutiful coverage by ESPN as their pet conference's 16th member. Instead, UConn labors with a $1.2M check from the AAC for all sports (less than one third what the Big East pays just for basketball) and Kevin Ollie is stuck selling recruits on games with Tulsa and East Carolina rather than Duke and Carolina...or Villanova and Georgetown, for that matter. But if they moved football down and/or took the Big East's invitation, the ACC mirage goes away, and they'd be kicking themselves right into the 22nd Century if Temple or UMass fell into that 16th slot because ESPN forced the ACC's hand. Remember, UConn even petitioned to join the Big 12 and that fell flat. Besides, Rentschler Field would draw flies playing Towson and William & Mary and the marginal costs of 22 extra scholarships can be made up in one mid-level bowl with a 7-5 record.

The NCAA has finally brought “show cause” charges against Kevin Ollie. es.pn/2y1IliG

Who knew that coaches are members of the professors' union at state schools? That was a bit surprising to me.

So Ollie is claiming that UConn is precluded from acting properly in his case because they kowtowed to Calhoun, and if they failed to act improperly in his case it must be racism? I can't say I'm real sympathetic toward Ollie's position. OTOH, a plague on UConn. Sounds like a meteor lawsuit..

I heard they are also going to bed without dessert... Plus no TV or cell phone for 15 minutes. You can't blame Ollie. After all, he learned at the feet of Calhoun.
