The last game before Austin was diagnosed was very listless. He didn't start and could barely perform at all; those of us in the stands were speculating as to what was wrong. As I recall he didn't travel to the next game (at WVU?) and was soon diagnosed. I remember that Notre Dame game well. I found it really disturbing he was on the court at all. He left to return to locker room a couple of times — we learned later to go to bathroom. He just looked awful. Nothing comparable to Jesse’s lack of energy. I suspect it’s related to something inside his head.

Ok we aren’t really internet-diagnosing diabetes, right?

That’s okay. I was at the game and everyone was concerned with Austin’s appearance. I’ll never forget it because I was also at the UCOMN game when Austin put up 28 in the second half. Far and away the best performance I can ever remember from a Hoya. If he stayed healthy I believe he could’ve been one of our greatest.

Maybe Sleepy should watch that and confirm that he still believes that winning doesn't impact atmosphere.

This team didn't lose because of the final play.
Disappointing because this team SHOULD be much better than DePaul. But there's 5-10 possessions a game on each end where they just make a completely moronic mistake. Not one of aggression, really, just a "what the hell were they doing" type of mistake.
I don't really understand how.

So based on this stat, Trey Dickerson's value was nearly -1 points per possession in a game we lost by 1 point. Can someone explain to me why he gets any time at all? In the Big East, his overall offensive efficiency is 66.7 (abysmally bad for those of you who don't have a reference point). He is a huge drag on the team. I realize Ewing cut his time and only played him 5 minutes, but as I said in another thread, we are not a good enough team for someone like Dickerson to give him much time in any close game. As I've said before, he seems like a really good kid, and he seems to have a good attitude, so it pains me to say it, but he really should not be playing at all in any close game. I wouldn't mind so much if he came in toward the end of a game like the Villanova or Creighton games (where we are already out of it), but we cannot continue to let him play while any game is close. We did fine in the two games where he was out for injury reasons. As far as Jesse, he did have a bad game, but he's still one of our two best players. I do think strategy with Govan needs to change a bit. Parking him in the post and subjecting him to constant double teams just isn't going to work. Govan needs to either speed up his game (i.e., pass or shoot more quickly) or play a bit more like Derrickson and flash out for threes more frequently.

I agree they are going to need to make some adjustments to the offensive schemes to find a way to better utilize Jessie. He had a tough game against DePaul but other teams are going to use that as a blue print of how to stop him and the Hoyas. Need to find more way to use him to help the team. Taking one of our best players off the floor for extended periods is not the best answer. I have confidence Ewing will come up with something to counter that defensive scheme.
