Our lack of a solid PG gives us a low ceiling. No answer to the double teams on Derrickson or Govan. On some nights we will be hot from outside and keep ourselves close, but crunch time is when we have no answers. Bizarrely, our answers at crunch time have been our big men from three!

Thanks to a brief hospital stay I had the opportunity to spend a few days watching college ball on a nice 32 inch HD TV only a few feet from my bed. While I always try to catch a few OOC games a year I never had the "chance" to do so for such an extended period. Two things become quickly obvious. First, as said ad nauseam on this board a quality point guard is essential. None of the top teams I got to watch lacked a true, pg floor leader. Second, the era of the dominant big man is over, the three point shot has killed it. Purdue has a monster 7'2" big man in Haas. As good as he is, and he is remarkably good, what makes Purdue effective is their pg and their quality 3 point shooters. In the games I watched, Haas was only effective when teams couldn't double team him for fear of Purdues perimeter shooters. Every top 10 team I watched had at least 2 reliable 3 point shooters on the floor at all times. Some, like Nova, actually has 3. Sadly, again has been pointed out on this board, we lack both the true pg and effective 3 point shooters. I think going forward PE needs to recruit to this standard and as we look toward next year we need to measure his success by his ability to do so.

Yes, small bowel obstruction that resolved on its own.

Hopefully we get Depaul Provvy, not Villanova Provvy. Not that it's going to happen but the best 2 ways to make the tournament would involve beating Villanova twice. If you beat Villanova in the first round then you effectively take the #1 seed and won't have to face #2/#3 till the BET final.

If we don't get 2 out of the next 4, none of the BET likely matters for NIT purposes. Marquette and Provvy are the 2 best chances on paper.
As for Xavier this week, would love to hang tough with them and have a chance at the end. Even if we blow another end-of game situation with sub-par guard play, I would feel pretty darn good, knowing that guard play should improve next season.
