I'm sorry to share the sad news of the passing of Greg Pereira aka Jahida Hoya. I know many of the old time board members knew Greg and shared many beers at Cafe 31. He was able to travel to DC for a final Hoyas game in December. He lost his battle with cancer earlier this week. Services are this weekend in Redding, CT (the obituary has the details). If you have any questions please email me as I likely won't be able to respond to messages here for a while: dkuhla@gmail.com - Dave Kuhla Obituary of Greg Pereirawww.boutonfuneralhome.com/obituary/gregory-pereira

So sad. I have many fond memories of JahidiHoya , particularly at and around Cafe 31 on BET weekends. In fact, I’ve been thinking about him lately when I’ve seen the BIG EAST promo during its games.
Prayers for his family and friends.

Very sad. Only met Greg once, but you couldn't find a more enthusiastic and positive Hoya fan and person. Condolences to his family and the many communities he's touched in his too short life.

Great guy, and as big a Hoya fan as there was.
RIP Greg.

What awful news. Thoughts and prayers to his family from his Hoya family. The BET pre-game experience will never be the same.

Terrible news. Was just thinking about him with Seton Hall coming up - met him a couple of times at Café 31 but hung out with him at the bar area at the Prudential Center during the second half of a terrible GU/SH game a few years ago. Really nice guy. Condolences to his family.

Very sad news. Ran into Jahidi Hoya a number of times at Cafe 31 for the BET. Super nice guy. He'll be missed.

So sad to hear this. Have two great memories with Greg. On HoyaTalk one day and he posts that St. Johns had released floor seats on ticketmaster. I grab a pair and go with my buddy. They were actually first row on the floor (spike lee seats). I met Greg and sat next to him and thanked him for the tip. He was on TV with his bulldog mask the entire game. DJ Owens made a diving play and steamrolled Jahidi into the next row. Those who know him, know that he protected his beer and didnt lose any! Big Hoyas Win! Years later randomly sat next to him in Gampel pavilion at the OT game where Otto went coast to coast to win it. Being CT. residents it was SO SWEET leaving a quiet building and he and I yelled "Hoya Saxa" around the entire concourse. Will miss his energy and love of Hoya Basketball. Rest in Peace

So, so saddened by this news. I always looked forward to reading his posts here. Requiescat in pace, Mr. Pereira.

Tragically young. We oftentimes argue, mostly civilly sometimes not, with our fellow Hoya fans over a mere game. We should remind ourselves that there are many things much more important than a game. RIP.

Rest in Peace I remember Greg getting in Thabeet's head from the first row the year Greg Monroe wrecked him. Man did he hate UConn. He passed the dog mask onto his pups and I'm sure a lot more important traits as well. We'll miss you Greg.

Late December. UConn was #2 at the time I believe. I think I bumped into Greg that night after the game. Good times. RIP.
