www.phenomhoopreport.com/2017/08/28/bendels-best-of-the-2017-aau-season-guards-part-2/"6’4 ’18 Damerius Wash (SR1 All-Stars) Much of a player’s success at the next level relies heavily on their skill-set and ability to properly translate it. We at Phenom Hoops remain dumbfounded on how a player like Wash can be overlooked despite his near-perfect fit for a variety of D1 programs. There is a long list of things that coaches like to look for, especially for guards, and he checks every box with flying colors. Wash was on display at Summer Havoc, where he was utterly dominant on both ends of the floor while leading his team to a consistent stream of victories. Offensively, he’s virtually unstoppable and could seemingly play circuit ball for many teams given his incredibly malleable game. Wash can play with or without the ball; he is a really poised scorer on all three levels and can control the midrange area if allowed the opportunity. With that being said, Wash isn’t just a shooter, especially since he possesses the ability to work as the secondary ball handler and creator whenever needed. On the defensive end, he attacks opposing guards and has an innate feel of how to play angles to his advantage. The only true way to appreciate Wash and everything that he provides is through watching him, where he shows up to perform every game. Productivity translates, and Wash was undoubtedly one of the most productive two-way players we saw throughout the summer. His recruitment is a lock to rise once coaches start seeing how seamlessly Wash will fit at the collegiate level." /photo/1

I'm VERY intrigued by this guy...seems to have "the package" of multiple skills on both ends...can also slide over and handle at the point...under the radar...reminds me a little of the recruitment of Eric "Sleepy" Floyd...would love to see him in Hoya Blue & Grey...

Bigger guard. Really athletic. Doesn't look like a pg though....

22nd ranked class of 2018 prospect in Mississippi, projected as a "low major" according to this site: magnoliahoops.com/2018-2/Also posts the kid's ACT score which I'm not sure is the best thing to do, I assume they have his permission.

Seems like the kind of kid you might take late in the year if a spot popped up or is still around.
We need guards, but obviously PG types and proven commodities first. If Tucker joins, the interest probably drops another peg.

Best to watch a real game with the kid before commenting on his value imo... it's hard to comment on how good a singer is before you hear a song or watch a performance.

Impressive athlete and I don't have an issue with the staff pursuing a player who they think is under rated by the recruiting sites and would perform well in their program but from the short clips I have seen I don't think his handle is going to solve the ball handling problems the team currently is struggling with.

Well probably need at least 17 or 18 to qualify.

If this is a Robert Kirby underrated recruit out of Mississippi, the track record on something like that is pretty ridiculous.

Although this kid sounds more like a PG/SG and Tucker a SG/SF could be a sign they know Tucker is not coming here...

It might just be that we are going for Kemba-types at the point because that's what Ewing wants or because there are so few pure points left out there.

Staff has been ahead of other folks evaluating talent. Jaxson Hayes, Lester Quinones, Lorca Lloyd. Even Alonzo Gaffney wasn't very highly regarded when they offered. Since they've seen more than the clips that have been provided hard to say this or that with confidence imo.

We need good defenders/shooters, too. So even if he's not a point guard, if the staff things he would play well, it's something to consider.

Even with the uptempo offense it is going to take Ewing a recruiting cycle or two to start landing the 4-5 star elite pg's. Therefore it will take the recruitment of the “diamond in the rough” pg by Kirby. If this kid has the handle to break down a defense in the middle of the lane and can finish at the basket, he is worth the gamble. I could care less about his 3pt shooting ability at this point. Can he navigate left and right in traffic without loosing the ball. The last Hoya that was able to do that was DSR. His shortcomings were height and quickness, but he had the handle to get where he wanted in the lane. The team can compensate a 3pt shooting deficiency with other players at this point, but please get someone who has the the ability to make more than one defender try to stop him in the middle of the lane.
