I was gonna post about this topic in the Program approach thread earlier today, it looks very odd for the program not to promote its own event... Mex is very much missed...Have to ask again what the communications director PE brought in actually does? I think to some she is seen as Patrick's PR/media contact moreso than an SID in the tradition of Mex Carey or even Bill Shapland. She has no presence on social media, does not post interviews or post-game press conferences on YouTube, and after a year on the job, she still has no bio on GUHoyas.com. guhoyas.com/staff.aspx?staff=366But let's be fair, too. Ewing brought her into the job and if this is what he wants out of the role, that's his call. I would assume Lori (or a minion) is posting for Ewing on social media. Also - it was a media day. Is it possible that only members of the media were alerted?

I heard an quick interview with Ewing on WTOP this morning. I assume it came as a result of media day.

I don’t know if that’s really fair considering that Ewing has had more interviews and the program has had more of a social media presence in the past year than what feels like the past 20 years combined. There’s room to grow, but that’s the case with a lot of the aspects about the program. Just today they posted a million Instagram stories of the team and coach at a kids Halloween event in DC. I’m not sure we even hear about that five years ago.

Seems to me promoting your program is the easiest thing to do, why even have a media day if you're not going to push it out to your fans?

I was referring to your “So whose call is it to promote the program in at least a basic way?” That implies that they did nothing to promote media day and that they don’t do do anything to promote the program. The fact that they posted pictures on social media of the event shows that they promoted in at least a basic way. Again, it was media day. So yes, the program could have posted more, but the expectation is that the media would be putting out videos and articles based on the event. I’m assuming your preference is to have a full video of media day available. I just don’t know if we’re going to see much of that any more. In 2017 most of the post game press conferences got 150-450 views on YouTube. Meanwhile, the open practice video on Instagram a couple weeks ago got over 2,200 views. I just don’t know how much demand there is for full unedited videos of press conferences these days.

I just don’t know how much demand there is for full unedited videos of press conferences these days. It's a larger question about the lever between publicity and promotion and what does it mean to a program. More often than not, social media is, to use an old wrestling term, "cheap heat". You can dress up Jack the Bulldog in a turkey suit and say "Happy Thanksgiving!" and get a couple thousand "likes"--how many tickets does that sell? 25 of the school's last 100 Instagram posts are Patrick Ewing, not the team. You'l see much less of the past on Villanova's social media because Villanova is selling the present. Why? Because they can. The donor base isn't being built up by social media. Alumni of the 2000's and 2010's should be filling the ranks of the Hoop Club but it isn't there. (How many members of your class are in the Hoya Hoop Club?) Donor support is the lifeblood of a successful program, especially in tough times, and the 2010's would certainly qualify as such. Attendance is down six of the last seven years and 2017-18 was the lowest average attendance since moving off campus in 1981. That's why Xavier, despite predictions that they'll be in the Wednesday night undercard at MSG in March, has already sold out Cintas Center with season ticket holders this season. They have built a base that will show up regardless of what shows up on Instagram. We've got to build up the base and not just build up the ranking of social media.

I'll assume you're not saying that all 10,700 seats in the Cintas Center have been "sold out" to season ticket holders, but if the Hoyas had made the NCAA tourney each of the past 5 years and had an on campus 10k seat arena, don't you think said fictitious arena would be sold out (ok, maybe at 90%)? Agree with your other comments but this is rinse and repeat on the attendance argument. 10-15 5-10% of the undergrads are diehards. Winning consistently will bring in another X% of the students, but the Hoyas play in arena that's too big and far enough away (yeah, I know, free transportation for students and all) to provide excuses for not attending. I'll be happy with consistent success, becoming "cool" again with the local DC community. 11k fans in Verizon ain't a sell out by any stretch, but (too lazy to look up historical attendance figures) would have to be viewed as a win in terms of average attendance ...

I thought Kaleb was going to have a breakout season last year and was extremely disappointed. This is his last opportunity to make a mark.

I really hoping Kaleb would contribute this year. What happened? The vast majority of the minutes Kaleb received at the 3/4 last year have been taken this year by Pickett, Malinowski, and LeBlanc. Pickett played a lot of 2 last season with Kaleb, Marcus, and Jessie at the 3-4-5. This year, Pickett has shifted over to the 3 with our 2 freshman guards, with Trey and Jessie at the 4-5. Malinowski and Leblanc have earned significant minutes at the 3-4 while Jagan and Jhavon have earned the bench minutes at the 1-2. Kaleb is the odd man out. Mainly because he can't shoot reliably, although he does some nice things around the hoop. Btw, Grayson Carter sighting on Saturday!!!

I really hoping Kaleb would contribute this year. What happened? The truth of the matter is he might not be in great basketball shape/conditioning. He missed most of the summer with the foot injury which lingered deep into the preseason with reports that he had a an air cast a week before the season started forcing him to miss the first game of the season. Missing all the summer and fall training/conditioning/practice probably has set him back compared to other options. If he is going to get minutes this season, look for them to begin to tick up after fall semester finals when the team can have multiple practices including 2-aday practices that will help improve his conditioning. The App State, Little Rock, & Howard games will give us the most insight in his usage going forward this season...

I really hope that Kaleb gets healthy and can find a way to see 10-20 minutes a game. I love his defense and athletic ability.

He's played 3 to 5 minutes in most games and less than 1 vs Syracuse. Hopefully he is not fit enough to give us 10-20 mins yet and he can contribute more soon.

Never elevated his game. Invisible on the court. High hopes after some good summer league performances.

I think he is a spot player for us now in times of specific need. I am afraid his development missed the window of opportunity.

sounds like a redshirt for this year. Might not be a bad idea as it can allow him to fix his shooting and work on it.
