Happy New Year! Some shuffling atop the Associated Press Top 25 this week, after top-ranked Villanova lost its first game this season at Butler. The Big East Conference has three teams in the AP Top 25, as Villanova dropped two slots to #3, Xavier moved up one slot to #5, and Seton Hall moved up two slots to #21. Baylor (formerly #18) fell out of the rankings after a 24-point defeat at Texas Tech, and Creighton (formerly #25) dropped out of the rankings after blowing an 11-point halftime lead in a 6-point loss at Seton Hall. The new teams in the AP Top 25 are Arkansas (#22) and Clemson (#25); Creighton and Butler are now on the precipice of being ranked.

Butler shaved another big deficit at Xavier to cut it within 6. Looks like they'll come up short but clearly they're better than just about everyone thought they were.

Syracuse is a horrible basketball team.

I took a pregame antiseptic soak and *shudder* subjected myself to spend 2 hours sitting amidst the unwashed neanderthals at the Carrier Dome today (one of my kids - who are both Syracuse fans, I blame my wife's genetics - got tickets for Christmas). What an ugly game. Notre Dame played without its top 2 scorers, and both teams clanked and bricked their way to a 51-49 UND win. I think the Orangebois may have been more of a cupcake than some of our other OOC opponents.
