We don't know all the details about what went down but if what we suspect is true, I'm fully behind Ewing on this.
Consider... if it is my basketball program and we bring in a transfer for a visit, give him the normal recruiting treatment then decide for whatever reason we don't want him, we'd tell him so, right? Just be honest and say that we'd rather move on and good luck in the future. Then say that transfer immediately visits a rival school, and tweets out that he's choosing between them and us, when we know damn well there is not an offer from us. Do we just sit there and look bad because this transfer is lying and using us to save face at the expense of our program's reputation? Hell no, we let it be known to media sources the truth that there wasn't a valid offer and that the "choice" this transfer is making is fake.
That's how I'd play it in this hypothetical situation and if that is what Ewing did then good for him.

When did he make this alleged tweet Centercourt? He said he was making a college announcement Monday, but then he retweeted this, and he's the source for the information as well according to Borzello : Retweeting that seems like telling people you are deciding between Butler and Georgetown.

Seems being the operative word, But he himself never tweeted about any specific teams correct? Is it possible that Borzello added the "deciding between Gtown & Butler" because he knew those were the schools Tucker recently visited? Isn't that what we all thought before Standig enlightened us? Is it possible Tucker retweeted Borzello because Borzello tweeted about him picking a school? If we have to interpret tweets this way, you have to admit it starts to get silly..

Lost in all of this is the question: since when do TRANSFERS set public announcement dates for their next school? That right there is the only red flag I needed to see.

C'mon man. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt here, but he retweeted something saying he was deciding between Georgetown and Butler, and he was the source of the information for that tweet. Even if he didn't actively lie about this, he didn't correct anyone and he actively passed on bogus info, and yet you have a problem with our program gently putting it out there that we're not involved anymore?

I get that the kid's family wants him to get playing time. He is not transferring to sit again. I am not privy to the conversation which took place, but are we in the position to turn four star talent away? Tucker would have been the highest rated recruit of the Ewing era. Now I am curious as to the conversation that took place with the Waters family. A lot of Ball type dad's out there these days.

I don't want to turn away highly rated four star talent, but if he was really as good as his ranking he would have gotten a little bit more PT at Duke and would not be transferring at all. He was probably not going to get a ton of time there with all the 5 star players on the Duke team, but there are some lower rated players on that Duke team who were getting some minutes ahead of him. I think the player would have raised the overall talent level in the Georgetown program, which needs to happen, but do you want to do that at the expense of the type of program you are trying to build and the culture you are trying to instill in all the players. If he "needed" a guarantee of PT in order to commit then I think they did the right thing to take a pass on him. I don't want the staff giving a guarantee of PT to anyone. It certainly seems that Ewing wants players who are confident enough and work hard enough to earn their minutes. With Tucker in the Big East we will all be able to see if this was the right decision or not over the next few years.

It seems like there are two camps: (A) GU lost a recruit to Butler (B) Butler got a recruit after Georgetown (and presumably others) "passed" on him. I'm in camp B. I had heard too many rumors that he wanted to come to Georgetown. There were photos of his snapchat with a Georgetown jacket and filter. His school choice was limited to non-ACC conferences because of the 2-year sitting out rule for transfers. He was in the DC area for an extra long time, while second semesters were starting everywhere. Travel plans to B1G and Big 12 schools never seemed to materialize. The Butler trip was the last visit and had no real advanced notice. This is Butler's highest-rated commit ever. He left Duke because of playing time which makes available minutes seem like a top priority. Butler has time to give, next year. He needed to enroll quickly to start his transfer sit-out clock. He could have just quietly enrolled. Moreover, his announcement appeared to be choosing between the two schools rather than the customary group of 3 or 4. No one announces a "final 2." Georgetown has lost out on many high profile recruits without being sore losers in the past. So what triggered a GU source to speak with Ben Standig? I tend to believe it was a source talking to Borzello and the tweet that made it appear as Butler vs. Georgetown that would prompt clarification that Georgetown may not have been a true option. It may have been self-serving but it may have been a message to Butler. Maybe I am biased, but looking at all the info available it's more reasonable to me that the over-complication and need for an announcement indicate that Ewing and the kid/family did not see eye-to-eye on his future rather than the folks at McDonough being spiteful to a kid joining another Big East team.

I don't buy this playing time thing...all you have to do is watch Georgetown play to see that the kid would have serious opportunity at immediate and significant playing time. We aren't in a position to "cheer" losing out on talented kids.
Let's be honest...we need to add a few pieces to next years class if we want to turn this around by year 3 of PE.

I think this is "spot" on. I know we are all making assumptions here but let's just say that ultimately this all came down to playing time and then even further some type of promised playing time, then I think the right decision was made. Also to be clear I REALLY wanted Tucker. I think more than most. However if he looked at this roster, looked at himself, and said I need a guarantee on playing time versus I will definitely earn playing time w/my skills and ability...then maybe it's best he's not here. Not at a skill level, I think he would have started day 1 at SG (I know most see him at SF) but if this kid is not confident enough that he can play himself into the rotation and has to have it handed to him, something is missing there. Again I know I am making assumptions...

Confidence may have been shaken after riding the pine at Duke. Looking to limit his losses at this point. Not sure if a verbal guarantee of playing time is worth much anyway.
