That was leaked straight from the program. They wanted this out.

It is kinda hard to believe that if we (and others) are passing on him because of non-ability related reasons that Butler would be the team to take him.

I remember reading somewhere about a week ago that effort on both ends seemed to wane at times. Could it just be that Patrick didn't want this? This is very weird to me

So does that mean we are not passing because of another possible commitment but instead "other" reasons? That's my take but I don't want to impugn a kid who I don't know. What Standig also said was that Tucker only played 14 minutes in 14 games at Duke so lack of PT appears to be the most obvious reason why he left. Standig also reported Coach K's press release wishing the best and that he represented Duke well while he was there, etc.... Pure speculation but perhaps he wanted guaranteed PT and neither Ewing nor Turgeon would agree to something like that? Maryland already has a consensus top 40 SF for 2018 named Aaron Wiggins coming in next season add him to the Hueter kid and it's easy to see why they would pass on Tucker.. I do agree it's possible that Tucker may have been looking for guaranteed PT or maybe the staff wanted a yes or no while on his OV..

St John's and Syracuse both Also passed To be fair, he would have to sit out 2 years at Syracuse so I don't think they had any interest in the first place.

Weird if he wanted a coach to guarantee his minutes. A top 50 kid shouldn't really need to hear guaranteed minutes when he going to a school that doesn't have a player as highly ranked. I would just assume that I could play my way to guaranteed minutes.....

That was leaked straight from the program. They wanted this out. The more I think on it, the more I hope it didn't come from the program.. It feels petty to me, just let the kid have his moment if you've already moved on.. Why stick him out like this?

If I was Ewing, and I passed on a kid who then says he's going to choose between us and another school, I'd leak this too. It's disingenuous for the kid to claim we're still in the hunt to make himself look more coveted.

His moment would be directly at expense of Ewing and our program. How "out there" did we put the kid? It's a tidbit on a pay-for podcast that we passed - no reasoning was given, and the only people that are going to care are the people on this board. I look at it as fan service - we don't have to be shift-refreshing tomorrow to see if a kid who we passed on is going to commit. Wish someone from our side had done that during the Noel debacle.

Totally agree. And by the way, he is an adult too. If this is true, his minor embarrassment could have been avoided by him either 1) Doing something that needs no "announcement" without an announcement or 2) Not lying about it. Pretty simple fix.

Honestly, we don’t even know if this is an accurate source. The kid could still end up at Georgetown so let’s limit the speculation/character bashing.

I would just assume that I could play my way to guaranteed minutes..... I have no sources so I have no way of knowing what is true in this situation, but if the player wanted some type of guarantee of PT in order to commit, then I am glad that Ewing passed on him. The only guarantee that we should give a player is that he will have the chance to compete and earn playing time and that the best players will play the most. For the program to get back to the place it wants to be, they need to recruit players that embrace that competitive situation and have the confidence and desire to earn the playing time.

Yeah we know the info was leaked. Whoever did it wanted it out, but to pin that on “the program” is a stretch. It could be, but i suspect that there are enough people in the know that “the program” doesn’t exercise complete control.
FWIW Ron is corroborating so this leak has legs. I trust both him and Ben.

And from what I have heard and read from Patrick, it appears that is exactly what he tells all recruits - you will have every opportunity to earn playing time.

i hope they dont make mistake of not choosing this kid because we need a certain spot to fill. as per basketball theory its okay to fill the need but if the talent is there you dont pass it up.. ask Portland regarding KD, not saying tucker is KD level but i think he is better than Pickett and will hunt us back next year

The story lines up with the events that have transpired. We looked to be the only visit, but a decision was not announced. Things needed to move quickly due to the school semester commencing. Butler visit is announced out of the blue. Seems like for some reason we backed off and he will go to Bulter. Not much of a decision. If this is the case, I would have definitely put it out there that we passed.
