Pickett is the one guy on the team I would like to see play more loosely and schoolyard. It almost seems like paralysis by analysis with him sometimes.

Pickett is the one guy on the team I would like to see play more loosely and schoolyard. It almost seems like paralysis by analysis with him sometimes. Lots of other fans see offensive potential in Pickett that I just don't see at all. I think if Pickett played a looser, more schoolyard style - he would turn the ball over 10 times a game. He is 50/50 to lose the ball any time he dribbles in the vicinity of any defender. I need to stop commenting on Pickett - I always feel like I am ripping him, when I actually think he is a valuable player who has accepted tough coaching and improved significantly at the "dirty work" stuff of D and rebounding that a lot of players really struggle to develop because it is not glamorous and obvious. But I just don't see it offensively. Just flashes of skill surrounded by a whole bunch of turnovers/bad missed shots any time he tries to create on his own. The bad plays occur far, far more consistently than the good plays in these playmaking situation.

Hey I don’t think you are alone appreciating Pickett’s important contributions to this team, while questioning some of his offense. I suspect that some of the bricks he throws up are off of plays called by PE. When he shoots those rainbow threes in the flow, it’s often a beautiful thing. Put backs, dunks look great. WHen he is shooting on the move it is often a brick. He had a tough game rebounding vs Bailey, but against most BE foes,he does just fine.

I think Jamorko's size and length at wing, plus Durant being his hero, cause a lot of people to look at him as potentially being a big-time offensive threat in that mold. I see that perspective but I don't think he's ever going to be that kind of guy, he doesn't have the instincts or ballhandling for it. I see his future as a stretch 4 - add some muscle to his frame to help against bigger guys, focus on defense, rebounding and spotting up for 3s, and he'd be most effective. I like the kid a lot - he's been a great team player in embracing his position change this year, and he's contributed value in a lot of ways. I just don't see him ever being a guy who can consistently make plays on his own with the ball in his hands.

Pickett lacks the handles for more creative play. He is great with a one dribble to the hole attack that he can do from just inside the 3 line and occasionally at the 3 line. His height and not playing low to dribble low make this tough as well. He had a ton of turnovers doing this earlier this year and last. He is finally playing with his strengths and doing great. He is pushing the edges of what he can do rather than going far outside it.

Looking back, my post was unclear. He needs to react and play not think about every move/play.
He is almost visibly considering options on many occasions and they never work out. When he just gets the ball and shoots or makes a quick play it almost always seems to be the better play.
I don’t want him to expand his game, I want him to play more instinctively.

That is a good assessment of Jamorko. I think he has some impressive physical skills and certainly seems to work hard on his game, but he does not seem to have great basketball instincts. Some players just read the game/plays better than other players and those guys seem capable of making very quick decisions in the game and consistently make the right decisions. Jamorko is a very effective player in certain instances when he is put in a position where he is not asked to read the play and select the right option depending on how the defense is reacting.

You know how terrifying it is that we can all see the gears clanking in Morko’s head when he has the ball 20 feet from the hoop? That said, I completely agree with the poster who said he’d turn it over 10x a game if he decided to go schoolyard on us. He has the worst handles of any 1-2-3 I can ever remember at GU. He literally should have a 1 dribble restriction. If he puts it on the floor more than once, I’d say it’s better than 50/50 he’s giving it away. Just let that sink in.

That's a little exaggerated, but his handle has only marginally improved in his 2 1/2 seasons. So at this point he needs to recognize when he has enough space to dribble and make a move without strong pressure that can turn him over.

Let us not forget Patrick wants to win now with the talent he has. He wants them to play relentlessly and take chances. When he said, " who else am I going to give it to?" I believe that was a vote of confidence he has in Jahvon and Jamorko. It sounded like a statement of his evaluation of his players, the style of play he wants, and the culture he is building. These guys are growing. I doubt that we will see the preseason schedule that took place this year. His team this year will make a statement for him, they will earn their playing time, and nobody on this board has to give him approval! BTW, I don't think Jagan will quit. He made a choice to stay when Patrick was selected. He is a leader and will continue to develop his game. Rehash from the past.

I think sometimes players are afraid to make mistakes. The Hoyas have not had much room for errors. Turnovers are understandably not welcomed. And come at a penalty (being yanked), but it is the only way to grow and become confident....lIve and learn through your mistakes. He will continue to mature, and I am happy for his great contributions. What he does makes a difference for the team and does not always show up in the statistics! Then again maybe it does, there are statistical specialists on this board. Perhaps someone can determine what his +/- statistical norm is. 🤔

Basketball is like a jazz performance it is very improvisational. I don't always recognize the form. But when the ball arrives in your hands you've got options and you have to go for what you know: pass, dribble or shoot or some combination of those options. We (I) want him to take a great solo!! Trade 4s, 2s etc. This might be too much for some but, I think there are correlations between the two endeavors/disciplines.🙃!

I'm sure it has happened, but I can't remember a Hoya having a worse game. Couldn't shoot, couldn't defend, couldn't hold onto the ball. I have tried to picture every little spark from Jamarko as the start of his emergence, but it is getting harder and harder to see it happening.

Agree. Just needs to be a factor (just avg) and we can be in a lot of games. We are in rough spot when he struggles. Had a rough time finding his moves tonight, and attempted some that were higher degree of difficulty than needed to be. That being said, I don’t think we played good team O that second half and we missed a lot of makeable shots.

He seems like a good teammate and nice young man but unfortunately he's proven that he isn't a Big East caliber starter. Its a shame and doubly worse that he is the only scholarship forward on the team. Who knows if he'd be better in a lesser role, that isn't where they are this year.
There is still time even this season but I too am growing tired of waiting and am increasingly skeptical that his breakthrough will come.

I am a fan of this young man. Last night was a tough one for him. I was fine with his defense and actually strongly agree with him providing help on the drive, but his horrific turnover and other miscues on offense were a killer last night. I hope that he turns it around.

Tantalizing potential with NBA measurables is all well and good until the promise is never realized. Eventually, Jamoko has to put together a consistent effort, game to game. We need him. Now or never (and I'm hoping he finds it within himself to push his way through).

Now or never (and I'm hoping he finds it within himself to push his way through). Not sure I question his effort, I think it is more a case of losing his confidence. When he makes a few good plays early in the game, or makes a few shots, he tends to play well all game. But a couple of mistakes and he loses confidence and then becomes a liability. He has ability and can be a good player but needs to play through mistakes and just focus on the next play.

Pickett is a solid player, but either he's being put in bad situations or he's putting himself in bad situations during the game. Nearly every time he tries to back his defender towards the hoop, I now assume the play is going to result in either a turnover or a missed shot. I get that sometimes he has a height mismatch in that spot, but he just hasn't polished that skill yet. If he went back to being a spot up shooter with an occasional drive to the basket, I think he'll be a much more efficient offensive player for this team.
On defense, I assume he's being instructed to help off the wing. But unfortunately he's not prepared (either physically or from an awareness perspective) to recover and cover his opponent when they get the ball. I think he is capable of improving on this with better awareness and positioning, but the staff also needs to recognize this and modify their scheme to get the most out of him.

I have this perception that everytime Jamarko puts together a couple of solid shooting and scoring games, and I think he has found the confidence and spark he needs to be a consistent contributor, he turns around and throws in a couple of rim-clanging disappointments. Then just when I am convinced he will never get his shot back - he gives us 12-14 points for a couple of games.
So maybe he is due??🙄
