His Sports Challenge show in the 70’s sparked my life long love of sports trivia.

Very surprised by the news of his passing. When I was growing up, it seemed that Dick Enberg was the lead voice on every major sporting event. . .from football, baseball and basketball to horse racing and tennis. He was still doing baseball play-by-play as the television voice of the Padres through the 2016 season. Another part of my childhood that is gone. Requiescat in pace, Mr. Enberg.

His Sports Challenge show in the 70’s sparked my life long love of sports trivia. I had totally forgotten about this. I go further back with Dick than most. I remember him announcing the UCLA and Ram games before he went national, and I always enjoyed his work. This hits hard. RIP, Dick. Oh my.

nj nailed my sentiments exactly. He was one of a kind and a class act all the way. For me, he was right up there with Jim McKay. Many thanks to him for his great work that I so enjoyed throughout the years. May he rest in peace.
