If the stories are true, being in a bar in the first place was a really bad idea. Whatever happened after that is difficult, if not impossible, to know. I hope that it turns out to be a relatively minor incident with no one injured and that all parties can move on. Hopefully that's the case and young Mr. Sodom learned his lesson. I trust the University and Patrick that the penalty was fitting in their estimation barring any verified info to the contrary (which we likely won't get) and I appreciate them taking quick, decisive action as uncertainty isn't good for any of the parties involved.

When I asked about his availability for the NT game, I was expecting this to be quietly swept under the rug, like you (don't) see at other programs. Honestly, I thought he'd be a "DNP - Coach's Decision" for a game or four and was not expecting action or a statement from the program.
Very interesting that PE went to dismissal for the first violation under his watch. He's not messing around. Hopefully the other guys take note, and hopefully Chris gets a second chance and can get things straightened out.

I don't wish bad things for Chris, now or in the future. But I'm also not going to condescend to him by suggesting that "everybody makes mistakes." He is/was a scholarship recipient and a representative of the Hoya program. It appears that he betrayed a trust, and, in fact, his teammates and the program. Kudos to our coach for drawing a line.

Always a shame to see a kid get in trouble. It's easy to lose sight of it in the world of college athletics, but a full ride to Georgetown is a pretty amazing opportunity. Hope he makes better decisions in the future.
In terms of our team and this season, I don't think there is a whole lot to see here. The few times I saw Sodom play, he was plainly out of his element. Lots of size but very little basketball ability. Way out of position for rebounds, too slow up and down the court, couldn't work his way into position in the post. A couple rebounds went right by him against NC A&T, and on others he was just way out of position. He is years away, at a minimum, from being able to compete at the college level. This does take away a slight bit of depth, but Sodom wouldn't be giving us more than 1-2 minutes a game. He's not a complement to or a replacement for Govan, nothing close.
In terms of Ewing and recruiting, not much to see here either. He missed on a late signing as he was trying to fill out a class when the cupboard was bare. This shouldn't become a trend, but it's almost impossible to fault the staff here. They made a late play, it didn't work out. Time for everyone to move on. I hear there's a game tomorrow night.

Maybe he was on a short lease for something more minor before, who knows. Although certainly this was apparently a big showcase for poor judgement.

Some kids handle frustrations in different ways. Yeah hope Chris gets a second chance.

Too bad for the kid. Like how Ewing is sending a message tho. This definitely hurts the whole program all the way around though. Ewing had no choice. It was probably up to the school and Coach Ewing to dismiss Chris.

I agree with your first paragraph. The few times I saw Sodom play he was blocking and altering shots, when the ball was thrown up to the basket he'd go get it and dunk it as he should. Our guards didn't know how to make Sodom better from what I noticed in Kenner action. I wouldn't say he was completely out of his element though I disagree with that. He's only been playing for 5 years, so his bball iq wasn't as high as seasoned bigs in the NCAA's but he was getting there. I wouldn't say he was way out of position on rebounds. He grabbed rebounds on both ends of the court from what I've seen during AAU and during the summer and the little bit of games he's played this season. I think he can compete now at the college level imo. Show the kid you believe him and watch him blossom. I wouldn't say he'd be giving 1-2 minutes a game. That'd do nothing for the kid. Some kids develop during games. I think if Govan or Derrickson got in foul trouble and our coaches showed they believed in him he at least try to do his best out there. I'm talking this from a coaching standpoint not just a fan. I fault the staff for not playing this 7'3" especially during the so called cupcake stretch. There was no reason for this kid to sit on the bench during this stretch. Sodom took it personal maybe way too personal due to what happened to him off the court. This is just my opinion but I do know some facts about this.

Those are things that would have been corrected over the next year had he stayed. Also he made himself smaller by constantly keeping his arms down and hands by his waist. It negates your 7-3 when you do that. Even just by keeping your hands over your head he would have becomes a 9 foot 7 wall that would intimidate. JT2 did a great job with getting Mutombo to do exactly that. Keep his hands and arms above his head and swing those long elbows. Nobody liked it but it allowed Mutombo to become an elite rebounding and shot blocking machine.

He was granted a scholarship. That shows belief. Not getting as many minutes as he'd like doesn't excuse or even constitute a good reason for what he apparently did off of the court. That part is on him and on him alone.

JT2 did a great job with getting Mutombo to do exactly that. Keep his hands and arms above his head and swing those long elbows. Nobody liked it but it allowed Mutombo to become an elite rebounding and shot blocking machine. "His foot work was off." Well, coach him up then. He's only been playing for 5 years right. Keep working with him. His biggest asset is when he's by the basket and for our guards to throw the ball up to the rim for him to score. For instance Trae Young, kid had 22 assists last night. I saw continuously throw the ball to the rim to his bigs. Young was literally making his bigs better during the game doing this. Do we guards that can do this. IMO, maybe one or two? The young man ran like a deer down and back on the court. I agree with you about not having his hands up. I always said this myself. Put your hands up Sodom you'll bigger and intimidating. These coaches should've always told him this. When JT Jr. coached most of his players not the bigs always kept their hands up. Coaches have to coach him up while he's out there on the court, continuously telling him to put his hands up. This is a part of his development. I always wrote in my blogs for our bigs to look bigger by putting their hands up and team as well. You get steals this way. Ha, you're write about JT Jr. and not only Mutombo but the Hoyas of the past as well. I always wanted JTIII to do what the great teams of Dunbar (Baltimore) did, get some darn bricks and have his team run in place and act they're dribbling with those heavy bricks. This is why those Dunbar teams were so great and undefeated for 59 games. When their opponents were tired in the 4th quarter the Dunbar Poets still had their hands up and plenty of energy to win those games. I'm mostly with you on this. Respect.

Some kids don't get this at home. I never said what he did constituted his behavior off of the court right? Of course it's all on him, there's no doubt about that. That's a given and is common sense. This just my opinion. Respect. Living where I've lived and coaching I've dealt with some kids like this. They act out in so many different ways when they lose trust in whomever. I don't know the full story, but I can say in my community can be a different beast. To say just because he granted a scholarship is the only way to show belief is rather dumb if you ask me. No disrespect. lol

Has the young man packed his bags and left? Is there a chance at reconciliation and re-instatement? From what I've read about the incident it bad but not unforgivable.

NO IDEA how Pat handled coaching Sodom, obviously. However, I am sure he will have a learning curve in terms of coaching "projects" like him. After all, Pat was the best player in the USA at Sodom's age. Further, as an NBA assistant, although coaching up young big guys...it was folks like Dwight Howard, Yao Ming, etc..in other words young guys who were still far more advanced then Sodom. I have total faith in Patrick, but he is also new at this college thing. In terms of his dismissal...however he was being coached up is separate from engaging in illegal conduct..IF that is what happened.
