Gotta rebound quickly and take this one seriously. Hoyas should win, but North Texas recently beat a pretty decent USD squad on the road, so they are no Coppin State.

Hoya fans will recognize the North Texas Mean Green head coach Grant McCasland, who was the head coach of Arkansas State last season.

This team is fearless when it comes to attacking the basket. Their big man can stretch it out all the way to the three point line. Guard Roosevelt Smart is the 5th leading scorer in Conference USA 18.5 a game. Nebraska did a good job on NT in November. Gotta watch this guy and his buddies ntdaily.com/rose-powers-mens-basketball-past-san-diego-in-ot-thriller/

Didn’t the Arkansas State loss immediately follow the collapse against Maryland last year? Better shake off yesterday and focus.

2 things I would love to see is that the team doesn't have any kind of hangover from the tough loss against a rival and jumps all over North Texas builds a lead and extends it. I know they are a solid team so no giving up big leads in the next 2 games. Second thing I like to see is double digit minutes for Walker/Sodom. I understood completely and expected it to be tough to find minutes for Antwan Walker against Syracuse zone whether he's healthy or not. If he's healthy, gotta find minutes for him and Sodom. Allow them to play through some mistakes and grow confidence. Saturday showed we are going to need 1 more big body to be able to contribute some competent depth. Also would like Govan and Derrickson's minutes limited to 25-28 minutes because we have complete control of the game.

North Texas has really climbed the rankings recently by beating Indiana State and San Diego recently (both in OT, though). It's noteworthy that Richmond is ranked 224, and North Texas is 234 (up from a low of 311). This is a home game, so arguably "easier" than Richmond, but this game is not as easy as the cupcakes we've had up to this point.
Or the quick summary for those who don't like rankings: North Texas isn't nearly as bad as the rest of our cupcakes.
We will need a good, focused effort. This is the type of game that could easily slide away from us if the intensity levels and focus aren't there.

Any word on Sodom's availability for Wednesday? I don't think we should expect to see him suit up for this one, but Ewing has not had to discipline anyone yet as far as I know, so I'm not sure what to expect.
Either way, we should be fine without him.

This team loves to attack the paint. Great player and ball movement as well.

This is a solid CUSA team, not a cupcake city walkthrough. The team needs to be ready to compete from the jump. This is not a tune-up, but another test to prepare for BEast play. Ewing will have them shake off the Cuse residue and have them focused.

The Hoyas have fallen to #105 in the Sagarin rankings. However, we no longer have the worst schedule in the land; we are only 2nd worst, as Duquesne (team of Si Green and the Ricketts brothers) are #351.

Tomorrow night may be Ewing's biggest challenge to date since the season began. Not so difficult to get this team up for Syracuse and 15,000 fans at home. However, playing an improving mid-major, coming off an impressive overtime road win, after a demoralizing collapse against the Orange will be a test. The team has to arrive focused on this game and not last Saturday. The arena is likely to be empty again and the opponent is road tested against a much better schedule (sorry for having to mention the schedule)than the Hoyas have played. While Saturday showed significant potential, it also showed some serious shortcomings that can only be overcome with effort and focus.

These types of games, against decent mid major teams, always scared me with JT3. The Hoyas always seemed to come out and not be fully prepared or motivated. The loss to Syracuse was a tough one, but the coach needs to get his players to turn the page and be ready to play. They showed they are very competitive with good high major teams and this is a game they should win at home, but if they come out without the needed intensity and let North Texas hang around they could easily lose. Hoyas need to impose their will on the game early, play at their pace and show they can play with focus and intensity for a full 40 minutes.
