This is a bit of cart before the horse. If approved, this suddenly means Fox and Disney (ESPN) are one. This seems to be a marriage of convenience considering ESPN and the rights fees they have committed to are a cable based model that is quickly dying. On one hand, I am thrilled by this as cable is a racket and coaches salaries and the resources coming from these deals are appalling for institutions of higher learning.
I wonder if the next big east deal is with a twitter or facebook type entity for streaming. I also wonder if now you will have cross platform deals and we will suddenly find ourselves back in alignment with ESPN & FS1 or if they just eliminate the overlapping entities and everything falls under one umbrella?

Yeah, I though it was just the regional stuff. Example being the 1st game of the season against Jacksonville was aired regionally in different markets. MASN2 in DC. I'm assuming an Disney/ABC/ESPN owned property would then air the game locally instead. Someone please correct me if wrong.

It's just Fox's entertainment properties, so IP, Hulu, etc. Fox News/Fox Sports was not included.

Correct, Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2 are not included, but the regional Fox Sports networks are. So in the short term, at least, it has little to no effect on Georgetown or the Big East.

The low level Big East games are on the Fox Sports Regional channels (like MASN2 and YES). Does that mean there will be Big East games back on ESPN properties now?

Properties yes, but it doesn't have to be ESPN. Locally some can remember ESPN+ was aired locally on ABC 7 or News channel 8. I'm pretty sure the channels will change, but same concept.

At best, business as usual for Hoya fans. There could be some downside depending on how things shake out.

Yes, and keep in mind the Fox regional networks still need content. While I imagine ESPN has some content they'd happily push onto the regional networks, the networks are likely to rely on much of the same content they already have - at least in the short term. Fox Sports has also pushed games to CBS Sports Network, as well.

I'm going to look on the bright side of things and hope that the death of net neutrality slows casualhoya.com into oblivion. Maybe giant corporate monopolies can do something positive for a change.

This can only be good for FS1/FS2 and is horrible news for ESPN. Disney is already cash strapped and has alot of money put into the new theme park areas. Murdoch can use all the money from the purchase for his News and Sports channels. ESPN is the big loser here.

This ESPN deal is just for digital/streaming rights to fight cards that currently aren't airing on TV anyway. They are on the UFC Fight Pass streaming service right now. (Not sure if that survives after this.) The broadcast deal for the UFC hasn't been agreed to yet. Fox is still in the running for that, and there is a pretty good chance they will retain most or all of that package. None of this affects the Big East or FS1 yet.
